Paul Ryan Rules Out Run for President
NY Times ^ | 04-12-2016 | JENNIFER STEINHAUER

WASHINGTON — After a month of speculation and pleas ranging from the comic to the mildly desperate, Speaker Paul D. Ryan held an unusually formal news conference Tuesday afternoon to rule out once and for all, he said, his candidacy for the Republican nomination for president.

“Let me be clear,” Mr. Ryan said. “I do not want nor will I accept the nomination of our party.” He added that he had a message for convention delegates: “If no candidate has the majority on the first ballot, I believe you should only turn to a person who has participated in the primary. Count me out.”

Is practicing saying, “I didn’t want to, but I was drafted and couldn’t let America down.”, with a straight face.

He said he didn’t want to be Speaker about 5 times. He’ll take GOP Nomination if handed to him on a golden platter.

Political donors don’t just give to presidential campaigns: Ryan has an interest in keeping the House GOP-controlled.

” Ryan has an interest in keeping the House GOP-controlled.”

” Ryan has an interest in keeping the House GOP CRIME-controlled.”

Fixed it.

“Participated” (not won) = Kasich/Rubio. To hell with what the voters want.

I was waiting for Paul to remove one of his $650. Florsheim Corinthian Leather shoes, and BANG IT loudly on his podium for emphasis; Khrushchev style. Mitt said,’No!”.

I don’t think he’s ruled out anything. It’s rope-a-dope to try to protect his current gig, which is being challenged. But he’s counting on being drafted.

I believe you should only turn to a person who has participated in the primary

This was the real purpose of his statement, to encourage delegates to drop the requirement that a nominee must have won 8 states.

They're coming to steal our choices. Trump, Cruz, or pitchforks!

I’m seriously thinking of having my dog run. Who the heck cares about rules? Who cares if he didn’t file in time? He won’t hide any of his vet records. At least he was born on US soil and had two US parents.

I don’t think he’s ruled out anything.

I think he has. Ryan knows what we know. If he's handed the stolen nomination he'll lose. His career will be over. He's young, he doesn't want to sacrifice himself for nothing.

Of course the GOPe might, depending on what they know about him, be able to force him to run. But no one wants to be the sacrificial elephant if they can possibly avoid it.

You're on to it there.

Likewise the GOPe does not want Trump because he would win in November, while they are willing to sacrifice Cruz, whom they hate and know will lose to Hillary.
