It’s difficult to vote in the U.S.? The boy is so out of touch. It’s so simple that illegal aliens can do it. He must be hittin’ da happy smoke.

It’s not the slightest bit difficult - if you’re a citizen.

In fact, a great many democrats vote several times in every election.

fta... “... make sure everybody is voting,...”
*******************************************
Everybody in the USA is not eligible to vote Baraq; dumb ass!

There are millions of illegal aliens and legal foreign nationals, plus the felons. I understand that the Dems would like the votes from all those folks, but it isn’t right to allow them to vote.

“...makes it really hard for people to vote...”

What’s so hard about it?
1. You are an American citizen
2. You are not a convicted felon

What else is there??????????????

We need to end political parties, tear them apart, throw diesel on them, crush them under old truck tires and light it afire. Make the parties pay for all primary elections for any and every office. Why would Iowa need to pay for a caucus selection, when it is but an advisory committee for a private for profit corporation, the GOP? In all 57 states and territories, there are very expensive elections going on in which the Demons have superdelegates, and the Puklicans have “flexible rules” allowing them to control who is nominated. In short, the primary elections are a test to “practice” following along like a good sheeple, and WE pay for it.

He never says how the states make it difficult to vote. You need a picture ID and you need to get to the polling place! If you have registered by the deadline, you can vote.

Maybe if we had “ voting vans” that cruised the neighborhoods, he would be happy. No registering, no ID, just stroll to the curb and vote.

No, it would never be enough.

If you don’t vote and can’t provide a so-called “valid and sufficient reason”, you get fined AUD $20 (US$15.10 at time of writing). And if you don’t pay that fine, you could get dragged to court and then get fined $170 (US$128.37) plus court costs.

From my POV, the arguments against compulsory voting outweigh those in favor, as listed here. They are construing voting as a duty versus a right.

Supposedly the last time 65% of eligible US voters voted in national elections was back in 1908, less for state and local. It hasn’t broken that since, a lot of them being below 55%. At least by any thing that I have seen.

Supposedly the 10% of dumbest voters, the ones that vote, but vote one way and then another but can’t usually coherently explain why, are the ones that decide these elections. That’s what swing voters are, right? The people who the campaign money is meant to manipulate into voting or not voting at all based on political ads? Or vote based on how well attended a political really seems to be, or how well the media said a candidate did in a debate. The swayable.

It’s a wonder we aren’t worse off, considering. The problem is that we would probably be even worse off if more people voted, as I suspect the swing voters would only increase as a %.

Hard? It’s hard to vote? I never had any trouble, perhaps because I’m a US Citizen.

In Wisconsin it was said that it was easier to vote than to a rent a video from Blockbuster (when that was still a thing). Leftist activists get homeless people to vote for booze and cigarettes.

Mandatory voting would be TERRIBLE, a democrat wet dream. Millions of ultra-low info people voting who have no business making decisions that effect the country. And there would be non-compliance, massive non-compliance. Gonna fine everybody? Bastard.

Does Australia have mandatory ID checks?

No - you simply give your name and address.

There seems to be surprisingly little fraud despite that. Just commenting on some other posts - we do actually formally have mandatory voting in Australia, not just mandatory attendance - for practical reasons relating to the secret ballot, it's impossible to force somebody to actually cast a valid ballot, but the intention behind the law is clearly based on trying to get everybody to vote. Describing it as simply being required to attend a polling station can give the wrong impression.

I am not in favour of compulsory voting. It simply compels ill informed people to cast a vote, and favours the left wing populist parties over others, and the major parties over smaller ones.

Not that the GOP is doing a FECKING THING on THIS side of the aisle to change hearts and minds...

Seriously? You have to go? What happens if you don't?

You receive a fine in the mail.

Just like "health insurance" in the U.S.
