RNC Chair Priebus: Nominee Will Be One of the Three People Still Running
Breitbart.com ^ | 5 Apr 2016 | Jeff Poor

Tuesday following the outcome of the Wisconsin GOP presidential primary, Republican National Committee chairman Reince Priebus appeared on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity” to answer questions from host Sean Hannity about the nominating process.

Priebus downplayed any talk of the nominee being someone other than who is still running, including House Speaker Rep. Paul Ryan (R-WI).

“Well look, clearly there’s a rule in place that candidates now need a majority of eight states’ delegates – eight different states’ delegates, a majority to be even nominated,” Priebus said. “I’ve said it before. It’s not like I’m making news. I believe – our nominee’s going to be someone running. And as far as this Paul Ryan talk, let me just say it again for the tenth time: Number one, he’s not running. Number two, he doesn’t want to. Number three, he doesn’t like this talk. He wants it to end. But number four, he’s not going to have a floor operation to do any of these things. It’s ridiculous.”

Priebus outright declared it would be one of the three candidates still in the field, which are Donald Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) and Gov. John Kasich (R-OH)

If the delegates maintain Rule #40 it can only possibly be Trump or Cruz. Kasich will not win 8 states or territories.

I don’t get it. In the past he said that the rule 40, and all rules were only for the 2012 convention, and didn’t carry forward to this years convention. Now he is saying there is this rule about nominees having to have support in a certain number of states?? Is he talking out of both sides of his mouth??? Did he change his mind about rules carrying forward???, what the heck???

I watched the interview on Hannity where he said this. Hannity was pressing him to say it would only be Trump or Cruz. Priebus tired to make the point that he was including Kasich because he was still running, and Priebus didn’t want to exclude him which would seem biased.

Gateway Pundit has the full conversation, where Priebus all but came out and said it would be Kasich.

“Priebus: I’m saying it’s going to be one of the three people running.

Hannity: How can Kasich get there without leapfrogging over people that have millions of more votes and more delegates?

Priebus: You’re going to have to ask John Kasich. But I’m not going to something that’s goint to be an affront right now to John Kasich.”

So now we know why Kasich is still running.

"Kasich will not win 8 states or territories."

Right.

That's what makes his assurances suspicious.

What else can Priebus say, though? He's the chair of the RNC, and shouldn't take sides during the primary. Saying that it's going to be Cruz or Trump is taking sides against another candidate who is still running. I'm sure he personally thinks Kasich isn't going to be the nominee, but he really can't say that.

And look, if Priebus was really dealing from the bottom of the deck on this, why wouldn't he just lie and say "sure, it's going to be Cruz or Trump", and then shrug his shoulder and say "don't blame me" if Kasich were to emerge?

It should only be one of two candidates still running. Kasich shouldn’t count.

Kasich is only out if the rules 40 stays. Right now the RNC has appointed four delegates to begin writing the rules. There are reports that at least one of those delegates has openly stated that rule 40 will be taken out. They could also write different rules for different ballots. Rule 40 on the first ballot, but not on subsequent ballots, etc. There are rules about how the rules must be written, but not what rules must be written. Lots of room for mischief.

From a business perspective, the media are drooling for a contested convention.

All three candidates should continue to look as presidential as possible and stop slinging mud. They’ll all have to work together eventually for the good of the party and the election, or we’ll get Hillary and Bernie. When a candidate loses, he should do it with grace and style and move on to the next battle. Second point, this push to recruit delegates and eat a a ground game in each state in a fight to influence delegates is very wearing to me. I don’t have the time, inclination or spirit to get involved with all that. I voting in the April 26 PA primary and that’s all I can do.

Reince Priebus serves primarily as the GOP leadership's "press secretary"; thus, he is controlled by the GOPEs.

As with a more notorious "press secretary" (i.e., Josh Earnest), I don't believe a single word Priebus says. It is far more important for us to observe and comment on the actions of the GOPE leaders.

Then there’s this: The rules could be written to allow the delegates to vote to unbind themselves on the first ballot if they wish, meaning Trump could lose even if he gets to 1237 delegates.

At least two, yes. To be a GOPe leader you have to have at least three mouths with a forked tongue in each.
