Donald Trump is getting some national security advice from Florida Rep. Jeff Miller, a major coup for the candidate and one that could give him some needed gravitas on an issue hes had problems with in the past.
A Trump campaign source confirmed to NBC News that Miller attended Trumps meeting with national security advisers on Capitol Hill this Thursday. The Florida Republican, whos retiring this year, is seen sitting at the front of a photo Trump sent out on Twitter after the meeting. Its unclear whether Miller is officially advising Trump or only attended the one meeting.
Miller serves as chairman of the Committee on Veterans Affairs and is a member of the Intelligence and Armed Services committees. Hes known as a prominent voice on national security issues particularly on veterans issues on Capitol Hill.
In a series of print and television news interviews over the past few weeks, Trump has sought to lay out his foreign policy platform, cobbling together at times contradictory positions on U.S. engagement abroad, the use of ground troops, nuclear weapons and diplomacy into a Trump Doctrine that hes characterized as peace through strength. But its an issue on which hes made numerous gaffes over the course of his campaign, and many critics see Trumps unfamiliarity with foreign affairs as one of his biggest weaknesses in the race. Millers support and stamp of approval could help Trump make up some of that lost ground. And his outspoken advocacy on the VA crisis is sure to be a boon for Trump, who routinely pledges to clean up the VA and offer better services to veterans on the campaign trail.

"...a panel of eastern European leaders lined up to add their own accusations of Russian aggression.
"Every single day, Russian troops, Russian weapons, Russian ammunition penetrate into my country," said Ukraine President Petro Poroshenko.
He addressed Russian President Vladimir Putin, who was not present, saying:
"Mr Putin, this is not a civil war in Ukraine, this is your aggression. This is not a civil war in Crimea, this is your soldiers who occupied my country."
“...But keep your enemies closer.”
I have often wondered why we are footing the bill for the defense of Europe. The USSR collapsed nearly 25 years ago, so what is the threat now? The only threat to Europe comes from within and they are doing it to themselves with their wide open borders. Why should we pay for that? If this is a black and white issue where NATO gets the money or a school in Brooklyn, I’d rather keep it at home and give it to the school. But, that is not the real choice. How about we either save the money or put it into our own defense programs?
BS, you're just not paying attention.

The next commander in chief will face a stark reality: for eight years, President Obama systematically drained resources from our armed services. It will no longer matter why or how he did it. All that will matter is what happens next.
While President Obama may have been hoping that unilateral disarmament on the part of the United States would result in similar behavior from other major powers, the opposite has happened. Both China and Russia are engaged in significant military buildups and aggressive behavior from Ukraine to Syria to the South China Sea.
Iran, which had been restrained by one of the most punishing economic sanctions regimes in history, is now on a $100 billion military shopping spree primarily at the Russian arms industry checkout counter courtesy of the American president. ..."
"If we want to actually dismantle ISIS, we need to dramatically change course. We need a real, robust campaign that maximizes our overwhelming air advantage.
We need to focus our efforts not on trying to create friends, but on supporting our real ones, especially the Kurds in Iraq and Syria who have actually had success against ISIS."

"We can redouble our efforts to develop the defensive weapons that neutralized the offensive Soviet threat -- particularly missile defense, which has seen a 25% budget reduction under Obama, according to an analysis from the conservative Heritage Foundation, and has been constrained by bad arms deals like New START.
We should not only move quickly to install the canceled interceptor sites Putin opposed in Poland and the Czech Republic, but also to develop the next generation of systems that will only increase his discomfiture.
These options do not entail a ground war in Syria, yet would effectively shake us free from the failed policies that have brought us to our current impasse.
These options set us on a new path that puts Putin on notice that the United States is reclaiming our traditional role as leader of the free world."

"I think it would be a mistake to get involved in the Syrian civil war. There have been voices in Washington eager for us to send our sons and daughters over to fight that civil war for some time. I haven't been one of them. I think the touchstone of U.S. military policy should be protecting the national security of this country."
"What we're seeing Putin in Russia do is a direct response to the profound weakness of Obama over six and a half years.
Putin views Obama as weak, as ineffective, and frankly, as a laughingstock. And, as a result, he is moving in, he is invading his neighbors, like Ukraine, he's kidnapping Estonians, and he's moving into Syria to gain a stronger foothold in the Middle East."

Ted Cruz:
"We need a coherent plan to address both the specific crisis in Syria and the challenge posed more broadly by Putin's resurgent Russia.
The good news is that America still has options, if our leaders can summon the will to exercise them.
For starters, in Syria we can't double down on the failed strategies that have given Putin his opportunity to intervene.
We are now two years out from President Obama's proposed intervention after al-Assad used chemical weapons against his own people. ..."

Trump doesn't view Putin as an enemy! Anything but!
Yes, quote the Beta male...because he is such a leader...
-——Trump is single-handedly tearing down the lawyer-class insider wall and hes doing it as the front-runner.———
You guys keep saying he’s tearing down the GOPe....
I know he says it....as the front runner, but I see no evidence he has....
Just because he is self funding and not beholden to the donor class doesn’t mean he will not work with them as POTUS...
is there any actual evidence he will tear them down once (if) he wins the general...
Jeff Miller is a big do nothing RINO! He has allowed the VA to cover up all the corrupt practices and has not even tried to fire the guilty. He was a Boehner man, Paul Ryan too. He hasn’t made a decent decision in years.
I know. I’ve written him dozens of letters and made numerous phone calls. He is a loser, bigtime!
The next job Donny has will be on the apprentice.
Just in time for fall sweeps.
heh.
Getting easier by the hour.
Jedi
But there is a problem you see. I knew teddy to be a conniving lying bas...d before Trump ever arrived on the presidential trail. Why should I believe a word of what he says. No thanks.
Exactly. This shows me that he's very smart, determined, a quick learner and has backbone. These are qualities we desperately need in a president. We don't need another slimy lawyer.

"It is improbable that Trump has thought long or deeply on the subject of NATO, but he has opened a genuine debate on it." http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/2016/03/donald_trump_and_nato.html
Meh. Who needs NATO. What do they know about running the Oligarchic hotel bidness in Moscow anyhow?
Cuba is not Russia’s closest ally. That’s a dead meme.
