Plane’s Emergency Slide Falls Mid-Air, Hits Arizona Woman’s Home
CBS New York ^ | 03/31/2016

The slide landed at Self’s front door.

“Someone else had called 911 and said that they had seen an object falling from an airplane,” Self told KPHO.

The Federal Aviation Administration confirmed to KPHO that an Atlas Air Boeing 767 was on final approach to Sky Harbor Airport in Phoenix when the emergency escape slide deployed on the plane’s right wing. The plane was 2,800 feet up when the slide deployed and the crew – who were the only ones onboard – landed safely.

“Did they hear something? Did the captain know something was going on?” Self wondered to KPHO.

She continued, “There’s Riverview Park literally in my backyard and the [Chicago] Cubs are currently playing games right now. If it had fallen on a car, it still would have been devastating.

Mount it on the side of house, have a ladder up to the roof, and have charge the neighborhoods kids a quarter a trip to slide down.

Any of you ever landed at SKY Harbor?

Right smack in the middle of the city. RIGHT SMACK IN THE MIDDLE.

While comming down you can look into the buildings along the airport.

That airport should be moved out of there. Gonna cost a lot I know, but someday...and it will happen.

Nope, but I hear it is a hoot.

I have landed at O’Hare, CO Springs, the New airport at Denver, DTW, LAX, LAS, Appleton, ST Louis, KC, LHR, GLA, MESA AZ, and a bunch of others I cant think of right off.

They need to start moving these the hell out and stop from development around them. KC is a good example as is the new Denver airport.

Actually, LAS is bad also.

Right smack in the middle of the city. RIGHT SMACK IN THE MIDDLE.

Yeah, but I think it was there first and the city grew up around it. PHX isn't nearly as bad as San Diego, a postage stamp-sized airport surrounded by hills and tall buildings. PHX is big like LAX, with multiple runways.

They could move all the airlines thirty miles southeast to an expanded Phoenix-Mesa Gateway airport (Allegiant Air has a hub there now), but that would make most Valley residents pretty unhappy with the much longer drive.

They will drive to get there. That and use public transportation. No matter where the hell they put it.

Just wait...

Had a window blow out of a pressurized P-Baron. It landed on a snack vending cart in an amusement park. Nobody was injured. Scared the crap out of us though.

I also had a cowling section on the plane in front and above me break loose, causing a propeller strike to our plane. We returned to the airport and it left a gash in the blade of the prop about two inches deep. The prop had to be replaced before we could take off and the engine had to be torn down for inspection.
