DeLay: Cruz Must Sue Over Affair Allegations or Risk Presidential Bid
newsmax.com ^ | Bill Hoffmann

Posted on 03/29/2016 11:43:14 AM PDT by RoosterRedux

The National Enquirer story that alleges Ted Cruz had extramarital affairs with five women is a "festering boil" that could sink the Texas senator's presidential bid unless takes immediate legal action to discredit it, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay tells Newsmax TV. "I think if he would sue The Enquirer right now, it would put the story to bed," DeLay, a Texas Republican, said Monday on "The Steve Malzberg Show."

Cruz has angrily denied any truth to the Enquirer report and charges that Republican presidential front-runner is behind it — an allegation Trump strongly denies.

"He needs to get a hold of some people that know how to handle this kind of thing because this is so typical of politicians. They just wish that the story would go away," DeLay said.

“The Beans” on Heidi Cruz .... has nothing to do with her looks or her mental state (depression) .... everything to do with her politics. Just as Hilly influenced Bill, I cannot believe Heidi has no influence on Ted. I’ve long thought Ted was a wolf in sheep’s clothing ..... this doesn’t do anything to convince me otherwise:

same, but when you run on trust and honesty and then you become a hypocrite there is a problem and shows me he is no better than Clinton and others who have lied and cheated.

Trusted ted is no more, it’s more like untrust Ted.

OK, I'm trying to analyze without prejudice here.

It looks difficult for Cruz to sue since the NE didn't claim Cruz has had affairs, nor did NE claim to have any evidence of affairs. (This point seems to be overlooked). The NE reported that there are rumors and claims by others that Cruz has had affairs.

Cruz was allegedly seen having lunch twice a week with a woman of questionable reputation, shall we say. OK, where's the evidence of that? There is none that I've seen. And what would that prove if true? Nothing untoward. It would prove he had lunch with someone on a regular basis.

If this woman is real, and they were seen so often, why no photos showing them together? What's her name, and has she been convicted of prostitution? Maybe Cruz was counseling her to give up her life of prostitution. I know, that sounds funny, but there's as much evidence to support that as there is to support a sexual affair.

The idea of 5 affairs is really hard to believe. Multiple women are extremely difficult to keep up with when one is single and I have some experience in that matter from my younger days. This is a man constantly in public and very busy. How would he make time for that much dallying? So, what we have is gossip. That may be enough to sink him, but that's really all there is so far, gossip that may or may not be true. For me this all means: wait for real evidence.

Terrible advice by DeLay. I didn’t read the whole lurid story, but from what I saw, the National Enquirer played the old game of reporting that rumors say “x,y,z”. Since various sources aver they were approached by political operatives pushing the Cruz affair story, N.E. has an affirmative defense (reporting that there were rumors was factual, whether the rumors were true or not). Cruz would lose a libel case, even if he never had sex in his life, and afford the media opportunities to rehash the whole thing. And libel suits can backfire badly — reference Oscar Wilde.

Advice from a non-Cruz fan who hates sleaze, (assuming Cruz knows he’s not guilty):
1) Deny it vigorously and unequivocally;
2) Demand that anyone who maintains otherwise either present their evidence by noon tomorrow; or, take their slanderous dirty-tricks back into their snake pits and pull the holes in after them.
3) Any questions?

Beck has said that if any of it is true he will drop him like a hot potato.

But, understand that Beck is a 5150. For him to be convinced, he must hear from the supreme leader of the planet Zolton in the Garbancher galaxy. Until then, he's locked in with Cruz.

I am a Trump supporter. I'm just a little older than he is and have seen in my peers the odd journeys folks have gone through to get where they are today. I view Trump as a devout father and grandfather who would move mountains and even save a nation for that family. Life experiences really do bring out the very best in a lot of folks. Trump seems to be one of them.

And the sense of humor and oulier thought patterns? My dad was like that, so for me anyway, I "get" his humor.

All Cruz has to do to make this go away is drop from the race. He can’t win, so he might as well drop.

Same.
I was for cruz , but then I saw him shaking hands with Rubio at that debate and then saw him getting way too friendly with the establishment. At that point his campaign was failing, and the south where I am was not voting for him, hell some states like FL, ,VA did not even give him one county.

I knew right there and then he was just another ivy league lawyer who became an elected official who is willing to do and say anything.

Since then I have seen dirty tricks like telling Carson and Rubio voters they were dropping out, mailing list in Iowa, attacks on Trumps wife which started all this mess, and now it seems he is unable to answer have you ever cheated on your wife whilst hiding behind lawyer speak and parsing of words.

What get me is how some cannot see what he really is after all what has gone in since January.
Remember he said this.

“Let me encourage other members of the establishment: Keep supporting Donald Trump because every time you do it, what it is doing is telling conservatives all over the country is where you stand and who stands with you”.
- Ted Cruz, New Hampshire stump speech

Now with a failing campaign and no way to get the nomination he is part of the establishment.

I guess some people even on our side become hypocrites or just stubborn, or just want to believe that they want.

Same here . I know I made the right decision when I stopped having cruz as my number one guy and switched to Trump.

The sleaze of telling Carson voters to up till now being unable to answer a question and hiding behind Fiorina tells me I made the right decision.

I think he could have just answered the question of have you ever cheated on your wife, of which he being a lawyer would not answer and then parses words.

My thoughts too. He was unable to answer a very simple question about if he had ever cheated on his wife.

I think Cruz should prayerfully consider dropping out of the race.

“Coverup will be Cruz’s downfall.”

Yes, if there’s ever any evidence of something to cover up.

I’m not a Cruz supporter, it’s just that I’ve seen no evidence of affairs. No women have come forward, no source of the rumors is named, and the NE doesn’t even claim there have been affairs, only that there is gossip (with no sources) of affairs.

This is very weak soup so far.

I figured the GOP would use this to deny Ted a spot on the Ticket. Delay just confirms it. The only way out for Ted is to join up with Trump.

His boasting about his sexual escapes without remorse does not engender in me feelings of the loving grandfather type. Just because he has aged well he gets a pass? Are you suggesting that his infidelities have made him the lovable teddy bear he is today? Maybe for you. Not for me. I think that there is a “way to go” mentality from other men about his sexual conquests. Not for you specifically but among some men.
