Republicans have assumed this entire elections season that a candidate must have won at least 8 state primaries or caucuses to be eligible for the GOP nomination, but apparently that is not the case and apparently a rule change hasnt technically occurred, but thats not the way it seems.
Even Ted Cruz said just last night that John Kasich wasnt eligible because he hadnt won enough states, so even he was mislead.
Insiders now say rule 40(b) only applied to the republican convention in 2012 and was never intended to be used in future elections.
From Washington Examiner:
Party officials and knowledgeable sources have confirmed over the past few days that Rule 40(b) doesnt exist for the purposes of the upcoming convention. That means at this point, the three candidates left in the race, front-runner Donald Trump, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, and Ohio Gov. John Kasich, are all eligible for the nomination, as, possibly, are the Republican contenders who have since suspended their campaigns.
Ben Ginsberg, a Republican elections lawyer who was involved in rule-making process for the 2012 convention, said that Rule 40(b) isnt transferrable to the 2016 convention. Ginsberg explained to the Washington Examiner that what was passed in 2012 applied only to 2012, and that the 2016 convention must pass its own rule determining nomination eligibilty.
RNC Chairman Reince Priebus confirmed Ginsbergs assessment on Sunday during a television interview. There will always be a perception problem if people continue to miss to not explain the process properly. So, the 2012 rules committee writes the rules for the 2012 convention. The 2016 rules committee writes the rules for the 2016 convention, he told CNN.

Libby Lu is no more...she is gone from the site by Jim Robinson...Thank U, Jim
also gone is ‘guns guts’ and what ever else the loser called himself. again, thanks to Jim Robinson.
just wanted to share...
Well, people need to calm down.
Jim sees them for what they are. Dispuptors and Pro at that.
This Forum is willing to see all sides of Cruz and Trump at this point and this is exactly what we wanted going back to July of last year.
You will see the distractors get involved later in the process. They need to split the Republican vote to win.
They know this. Nobody has the pulse of FR beating more soundly than Jim. He knows who the players are and gives them quite a bit of latitude. It is now that the force of the campaign is on.
Ted Cruz will be my candidate if he is the nominee. Donald Trump will be my candidate if he is the nominee.
The distraction is directed at all of us.
“If you can even contemplate voting Democrat you are the enemy”
If there was a “like” button here, you would have mine
The oligarchs have it: the American people wouldn’t have it any other way.
You just described the ineptitude of the American people.
IMHO, much the support of Trump isn't so much of a "We love Trump" thing as it is a "We're sending Trump to DC as a message that YOU'RE FIRED" thing.
I don't like Trump. In many ways he's the antithesis of conservatism; but what these RINO GOPe L.I.F.E.R. parasites are presenting us with is a choice between BOHICA and Trump.
And Gee Opie, guess what:
We're not choosing BOHICA.
You know what I hope they change the rules to deny this sniveling coward the Nomination.. The Country would be better off with Hillary!!! I won’t vote for her but I would never ever vote for The New York Sleaze!!!
“How can you run a campaign when they make up the rules after its all over?”
Taking lessons from the DemonRats
Works for me.
Oh, dear. Poetic license -—
the freedom to depart from the facts of a matter or from the conventional rules of language when speaking or writing in order to create an effect.
You could look it up.
GOPe Rule 4000: anyone who will end our gravy train will never be the nominee.
I know what it means sparky. When you depart from a lie what is it then?
Actually, up to 2012 the rule were very lax on who could be put into nomination. You would often have several put in nomination, including favorite sons. I am of the opinion that everyone who has minimum support should be able to have his/her name placed in nomination.
There is going to be one big mess if one of the top two who have fought all the way through do does not get the nomination.
I may never vote Republican again after this.
It’s either Trump or a new party for me.
this is terrible. and wrong.
but there 300 delegates in CA and NY alone that trump will take to get the needed number.
No, no, no and no. What they are saying is that the delegates to this Convention make the rules and are not bound by the rules of the last convention.
If, as I expect, Trump arrives at the Convention with a majority of the delegates, the issue will be moot, but what the GOPe is claiming is simply not what you say they are claiming.
Rules from 2012 were enacted to cram Romney down our throats. Guess the RNC doesn’t want them around now that all their houses have dropped out or have no chance.
We’ll see how it all shakes out, but it looks like sCruz may be toast soon. With no completion Trump could slide in easily. RNC Doesn’t want that no way no how.
Folks, we’re living in interesting times. I’m prepared, are you?
Trump will not be quiet. When he is hit he hits back twice as hard and is ruthless doing it. He cannot be bullied. If the rnc strips the nomination from whoever had the most delagates, they are committing political suicide. But most GOPes would rather have Clinton in anyway to keep the gravy train a chuggin’.
Is there any way to find out who all is on the Rules Committee? If we can find out, we can make life a little uncomfortable for them.
Trump should go third-party.
