Sowell: Black and White, Left and Right
Creators Syndicate ^ | March 22, 2016 | Thomas Sowell

Posted on 03/21/2016 10:30:43 AM PDT by jazusamo

Much is made of the fact that liberals and conservatives see racial issues differently, which they do. But these differences have too often been seen as simply those on the right being racist and those on the left not.

You can cherry-pick the evidence to reach that conclusion. But you can also cherry-pick the evidence to reach the opposite conclusion.

During the heyday of the Progressive movement in the early 20th century, people on the left were in the forefront of those promoting doctrines of innate, genetic inferiority of not only blacks but also of people from Eastern Europe and Southern Europe, as compared to people from Western Europe.

Liberals today tend to either glide over the undeniable racism of Progressive President Woodrow Wilson or else treat it as an anomaly of some sort. But racism on the left at that time was not an anomaly, either for President Wilson or for numerous other stalwarts of the Progressive movement.

An influential 1916 best-seller, "The Passing of the Great Race" — celebrating Nordic Europeans — was written by Madison Grant, a staunch activist for Progressive causes such as endangered species, municipal reform, conservation and the creation of national parks.

He was a member of an exclusive social club founded by Republican Progressive Theodore Roosevelt, and Grant and Franklin D. Roosevelt became friends in the 1920s, addressing one another in letters as "My dear Frank" and "My dear Madison." Grant's book was translated into German, and Adolf Hitler called it his Bible.

The left had progressives who changed to liberals who changed back to progressives. You know the ones who promoted eugenics and segregation.

How come we don't refer to them as neo-progressives. They keep reinventing themselves with new names to hide their shameful past.

"The biggest difference between the left and right today, when it comes to racial issues, is that liberals tend to take the side of those blacks who are doing the wrong things — hoodlums the left depicts as martyrs, while the right defends those blacks more likely to be the victims of those hoodlums."

Try reading the article in its entirety.....

We’ve been told time and again by some of Mr. Trump’s ardent supporters that Dr. Sowell is a GOPe hack and a RINO shill.

Therefore, I guess it would be disrespectful to Mr. Trump if one should read a Sowell article.

A true “Justice” system only promotes public virtue always. Unjust (evil) laws promote evil and unequal rights/theft/etc.

Vice breeds vice (envy/hate) only and collapses ALL “civil” societies.

This was known over 2400 years ago-—and is why the USA created the most free, Just System (Rule of Law (Higher Laws/God’s) in the history of the world that led to the most free, flourishing, creative culture of ALL time.

Freedom is impossible without virtuous people-—that is why the leftists are importing puerile, evil people and created a mandatory system of indoctrination—to trap children in a system where true education is impossible.

All is to destroy unity (virtue), to create chaos so they can destroy Western Civilization. White Christians are demonized 24/7 in all curricula—the only worldview which created Free Will and Individualism (thinking outside the box. They glorify to little five year olds evil, satanic, pagan behaviors where human beings are used in unnatural, vile, meaningless ways to destroy virtue formation—create pagan/tribal irrational minds where pederasty is normalized again like in Afghanistan and Spartan/Samurai cultures.

They want Slave (group/collective) cultures where individuals can be killed off and silenced and the State is god—so they can have a herd/collective of useful idiots, who can NEVER “think” outside their box.

Common Core destroys the ability of critical thinking in children-—as all artificial systems of mass indoctrination where children are removed from the mother/father paradigm to destroy individualism and thinking outside the box-—to create emotionally damaged-—group controlled/conditioned minds. Independent thinkers are Classically trained-—to question always and think for oneself-—like a Davy Crockett-—or a Lincoln-—people who never stepping into a mass conditioning system of indoctrination.

Haven’t y’all heard? Despite 50+ years as a conservative hero, Tom Sowell is now persona non grata at FR because he opposes a certain liberal demagogue seeking the GOP nomination.

Good post!

I’ve a Grandson in HS now that our daughter is about to pull her hair out over the Common Core BS the teachers are trying to cram down his throat and it’s just a Home-link program because she home schools him.

Claiming that the Republicans are the fount of racism is one of the greatest con games in American history. I interrupted an acquaintance's tirade on that account with a reminder that George Wallace was a Democrat. He didn't believe it until he looked it up.

Sowell's point, and mine at the time, was that just because someone panders to you doesn't mean they like you or wish you well. The black middle class found this out quite some time ago and promptly got shouted down when it was brought up. That's racism, the real thing, not the phony kind that gets thrown around as an accusation these days.

It’s amazing how many people today still don’t know the facts of Dems being behind racial discrimination in the country but especially in the South.

If Molly actually read anything, she would not be Molly. Then we would not have her to kick around. We need to have fun and that means appreciating her eccentricities and lack of relevant knowledge as a source of our fun.

Thank goodness Mr. Trump isn’t like that.
