"For rent: Downtown apartment, 2 bedrooms. Includes organic garden space, hot tub, great backyard. You can bring your dogs if they have references as good as yours. If voting for Donald Trump, do not call."
This ad appeared in The Nickel, a free paper in Grand Junction and even before the Grand Junction Daily Sentinel published an article about it on Saturday, landlord Mark Holmes received push-back from fans of Donald Trump by way of ugly voicemail messages.
And that's not to mention the comments that have appeared in posts about the ad that have appeared on conservative websites, some of which feature language of the vilest sort.
Grand Junction has been associated for months with Trump fandom. Last August, for example, we told you about a GJ billboard that depicted Trump as a knight in shining armor slaying a dragon emblazoned with references to "PC," "Muslims," "Libtards," "NSA," "FEMA," "IRS," "Iran" and "GLBT," among many others.
This kind of attitude clearly unsettles Holmes, whose Facebook page identifies him as a "humanitarian."
Likewise, his posts focus on liberal and environmental causes. No surprise that the Sentinel piece quickly got new life in the conservative blogosphere, despite a statement from a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development official that the ad doesn't violate the Fair Housing Act.
Take a post on Grassfire.com, which features this spin: Due to this, Holmes explained that he refuses to share a roof with those that support Trumps ban on Muslims and those that wish to secure the border.
"Pretty ironic that a guy who is bent out of shape over the thought of banning Muslims and securing the border is subsequently banning people from living in his apartment building.... But I digress. "
A similar item appears on ZeroCensorship.com, whose comment section runs the gamut.
One poster writes, "Not illegal, nor should it be. With that said, it's totally unenforceable. Someone says they're undecided and signs a contract, there's nothing he can do if the renter shows up in 4 months with his red Trump hat."
Another opines, "This should be legal. 100%. Then you could say no Clinton or Sanders voters or supporters. That would get rid of 100% of the riff-raff."
And then there's this: "The govt. already forces Faggots, Beaners, Illegals, Niggers and Every form of Welfare collecting Maggots on...THE WHOLE GODDAM WORLD. You Fucking Retarded Goddam IDIOT."
Expect more invective along these lines as we get closer to this November's election and as passions continue to rise.
Uncle Creepy.

Was that a whiff of mungbeans I smelled?
Loser, Loser Loser.
And he is a Racist .
You don’t have to rent his apartment, all you have to do is sneak in and demand amnesty.
Good!
Trump voters should never live in a left wing hell hole.
I expect everyone to be on his/her best behavior!
Black and gay Trump supporters are banned.
He needs a tattoo on his forehead.
“space for rent”
haha - I’d pretend to be a Bernie clown and once I was in would put up Trump signs in the windows etc..
Can’t refuse to rent based on race, ethnicity but it is ok based vote preference?
Civil rights violation. If bakers can be forced to bake cakes for homosexuals, then Liberals cannot discriminate in housing.
Exactly. What if he decided not to rent to people who like certain types of music? What if he couldn’t stand Rap or hip-hop. Would that be okay? Btw, love his scarf...
I don’t think it is a civil rights violation. Also, his ban against Trump supporters can’t be enforced. If he rents to someone who, later, displays Trump signs, there is nothing legally he can do about it.
“This kind of attitude clearly unsettles Holmes, whose Facebook page identifies him as a “humanitarian.”
LOL, you mean retarded humanitarian.
Brilliant! And spot on.
Walking stereotype complete with ‘neck hanky’.
Just take the apartment from him...it’s the Bernie Sanders/Hillary Clinton and Marxist way.
