IRBIL, Iraq — A U.S. Marine was killed near the front line with the Islamic State in northern Iraq on Saturday, becoming the second combat casualty of the war against the militants, according to the U.S. military and Iraqi officials.
The Marine died when Islamic State militants fired rockets into a small U.S. base in Makhmour, a front-line town controlled by Kurdish peshmerga forces on the outskirts of the region of Kurdistan, U.S. officials said.
“Several” other Marines also were injured in the rocket attack, according to a Pentagon statement. An earlier statement had not specified which branch of the military had been involved.
Sad to hear. SF should be working with these Kurds as they have since the 80’s.
Worse than that, they are dying for Muslim sects who hate us! This isn’t a war, because the gutless cowards in DC can’t bring themselves to declare war. Even if they did, this isn’t anything like a conventional war. Our enemy is Islam, even if nobody will say it, and you don’t fight a philosophy with armies. You contain it and keep it out of your country, which we are not doing.
This is absolutely insane and our good people are paying the price for the idiot politicians who like to talk tough and then said someone else to fight.
the uncomfortable truth is that we are either going to put large numbers of troops on the ground, defeat ISIS, and occupy their territory (securing basic basing rights with a reasonable number of troops would have been a ridiculously small price to pay to avoid this disaster in the first place), or we are going to simply tolerate it when they kill a couple of hundred of our citizens on our own soil every year — for that time is coming.
I pray too. If I were CIC I would unleash hell upon those savages. Give the Marines what they need to do what they are best at. Destroy their infrastructure and kill each and every one of them.
If ISIS gets seriously active in this country there will be a lot more than 200 dead Americans per year.We haven’t had a chemical or biological attack here,but it’s part of their playbook.
