I am always skeptical as well. However, if it’s true, he should have requested a normal looking waitress to serve him so that he could tip the normal person appropriately. What I’ve also learned working in the service industry is that some people are pieces of crap who think nothing of taking advantage of people who are “below” them. They don’t realize that they are actually the bottom feeders.

Tipping is appropriate considering waitresses basically work for tips. If the service was poor, fine. If her hair color was so offensive, he could have asked for another server. Sometimes jerks make up jerk excuses to justify their cheapness. I believe what goes around comes around. Pay back is a **tch.

If the service is good, it's the right thing to do. Wait staff do not get paid minimum wage.
I also tip well. I have never waited tables, but have many children of friends who have. They work hard, deal with difficult people, and still have to serve them. I don’t forget that when at a restaurant.

I tend to tip very well, to make up for those jerks who stiff the waiter/waitress.

Good wait staff in a decent place make more than minimum wage. Many would quit if told they had to work for minimum wage only.
