Tipping is appropriate considering waitresses basically work for tips. If the service was poor, fine. If her hair color was so offensive, he could have asked for another server. Sometimes jerks make up jerk excuses to justify their cheapness. I believe what goes around comes around. Pay back is a **tch.
If this waitress gave good service, even if she looked like a circus freak, then I probably would have tipped her. I'm not paying her to be a model. Obviously, this guy felt differently. And missing one tip isn't going to break her.
