Death of America: Why This Presidential Election isn’t as Important as People Think
American Thinker ^ | March 18, 2016 | Selwyn Duke

It’s easy to get wrapped up in men and moments. In the current election season, for instance, we may see a candidate appearing to embody all our hopes and dreams (or at least many) and come to assign him country-savior status. Even the great Thomas Sowell — a man for whom I have tremendous respect — has called the November choice “the last chance for America.” Yet even if we do choose the “right” president, it will only amount to a stay of execution.

Many people lament that “Obama has destroyed America these last eight years” or, alluding to same, will say “I don’t recognize my country anymore.” This is much like viewing a woman who marries a greasy-haired, dope-smoking, heavily tattooed and pierced, unemployable reprobate and saying that her matrimonial decision destroyed her, when the real problem was that she was the kind of person who could make such a choice in the first place. Do you really think Obama isn’t a symptom at least as much as a cause? Do you think the 2008 A.D. America that elected him would have been recognizable to 1950 Americans?

And even if the next president is an anomalous good result, he won’t even be a pause that refreshes, but will at best slow down the runaway train racing toward the precipice. This is because our main problems aren’t illegal migration, trade deals or health care, as significant as those things are. Our problems are more fundamental.

Yeah said the same thing right before Reagan got elected.

Boy was I wrong.

The Fed.gov monster, all its progressive-left cronies and all its social engineering schemes are supported by our fake, unbacked currency and the massive government debt it supports.

A lot of Americans didn’t think we should enter WWI or WWII either.

Sure they would. There was just far less of them.

Author is right that Obama is symptom of decline, but Obama has been a casual agent in furthering the decline as well.

Like it or not, it matters immensely who gets into the WH. Maybe this wasn’t ‘supposed to be’ the case in a representative republic. But in this era, it’s clearly the most important position by far in setting the tone, attitude, and direction for the country as whole.

No, I reject the “end is near” scenarios. We have too many examples in history of rapid turnarounds-—Victorian England, for example-—and countless wars/battles that are lost are won just as quickly (Waterloo, Midway).

“Always is motion is the future,” Yoda said. It’s never too late to turn things around. America was literally ONE supply ship away from not being here, and the Jamestown settlers were on their way up the James River to leave, while the supply ship met them on the way up the river. One half-hour earlier and the settlers would not have met the supply ship.

Likewise, Washington’s army was thoroughly defeated at Long Island and had to retreat under the guns of the British Navy-—except a miraculous fog rolled in and spared his army. You can go on and on.

I don’t even think Carter could be elected by today’s democrats. I watched YouTube debates and he sounds 100 times more conservative than any republican the GOP has picked.

At least half of the people in this country do not want to live in America as it was founded, and they are breeding faster than those that do. Even if we elect the “right” president we still may be re-arraigning the deck chairs on the titanic. That said we have no choice but to do the best we can with the situation we are in. If we have to sink, we might as well have our chairs in the right place.

I agree with you. This article is very negative. I see much more that is positive and progressive (in the true sense of the word) in the individual people I encounter, than negative. America, and American Values, are still very strong, despite some appearances; and I believe we will come through - though perhaps after a good deal of turbulence - stronger than ever.

America is being systematically looted to death, literally being strip mined of all equity by a small percent of the population. We’re fast approaching the end of of this endeavor, and the populace is beginning to wise up to what is happening, and they are pissed off to no end.

The political class will no longer be able to hide the acts of their financiers and fellow looters in the financial sector.

All I can say is that may their future be uncertain, and what goes around, comes around to bite then in the ass.

I believe you.

I’ve watched some of JFK’s speeches and got the same impression (comparing to POTUS of late).

Yeah, and the people in the World Trade Center could escape death by surfing the crumbling avalanche of debris all the way to the bottom.

Some catastrophes are just too immense to avoid.

Why vote or even have presidential elections at all? It’s not like they are important or anything.

America, on the road it is travelling, will soon be the current version of Orwell’s ‘1984’.

I get where the author is wanting, I just think he's going about it backwards. I think that if you grabbed a random group of people, stuck them in a room, had them watch, say, the evening news, then pulled them individually for interviews, most would not only clearly identify which agenda stories were run, but also express the true culprit.

Liberals have tripped upon a universally effective method of distributing agenda and not having to bother defending it: Shut down the conversation. Do what I say, don't think, any objection is (racist, homophobic, facist, etc...)

They've retooled a party where supporters receives daily propaganda blasts through memes and other echo chamber shares.

Preventing the disruption of this scenario is now a central focus of the liberals. They are gathering to punish Trump for not immediately retracting his words when they called it racist. Because if he continues to get away with it, their power is greatly diminished and they might actually have to start defending some of their insane policies and ideas.

True but that doesn't mean we should shut down and wait for the worst. To continue your metaphor some people on the lower levels ran for it and got out alive. I see value in trying even for those that didn't make it.
