Trump says he will skip Monday's Fox News debate

'I think it's enough,' Trump says about the primetime debates.

Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he will not participate in Monday's Fox News debate, and will instead speak at a conference of the pro-Israel lobby, AIPAC.

The Republican frontrunner was asked on "Fox & Friends" whether he planned to attend the debate in Utah, and said he couldn't because he made other plans.

“Nobody told me about debates. As you saw I thought the last debate on CNN was the last debate," Trump said on Wednesday morning.

“I’m doing a major speech in front of a very important group of people that night," Trump said, adding that it had been "scheduled a while ago."

"I think it's enough," he added, about the dozen debates the Republican candidates have participated in so far.

Trump's comments come after he scored a big win on Florida on Tuesday night, knocking Marco Rubio out of the race. But he failed to clinch Ohio, potentially setting the GOP on the path for a brokered convention, with Ted Cruz and John Kasich still vying for the nomination.

The real estate mogul has been flirting for days with skipping the upcoming debate, which the Republican National Committee had set on Feb. 20. Trump had called last Thursday's debate hosted by CNN "a really nice way to finish off the debate season" and said he was not aware of other upcoming showdowns.

While it's not clear if Trump can reach the 1,237 delegates needed to secure the nomination, he has called on the GOP to unite behind him so that he can take on Hillary Clinton in the general election.

This wouldn't be the first time Trump has skipped a debate. He boycotted the Fox News showdown in Iowa in January, following a feud with Fox News host Megyn Kelly, and subsequently lost the state to Cruz. Trump later said that skipping the debate could have cost him the win.

I think the RNC was well aware that they had not gotten Trump consent.

Until yesterday, they did not announce a place or a “sponsor”.

I had been checking all week.

This puts Fox in a bind.

If they cancel the debate, it will indicate that Donald is the defacto winner and “only reason” to have the debate. It will also prove that these Debates have been put in place just to pump up the ads.

If they go along with the debate, it will put a spotlight on the remaining two candidates. They will do OK, but it will be wonky and boring as hell. They will do noting but attack Trump.

Fox cannot win either way.

Thats funny. Someone did not do their homework.

I agree, enough is enough. However a debate had been schedules month ago for March 21, it was just not known by which cable network

Then let Kasich do a townhall with a FOX audience by himself. After about fifteen minutes the FOX execs will wonder if they paid for a Sominex infomercial when the entire audience is sound asleep.

I thought this cycle the RNC had decided to have less debates.

Fewer, not less.

I hate these Word Crimes.

Good. Cruz and Kasich can unite and bash the nominee. Fox should cancel it.

Trump didn’t know and had no input. I saw the presser when it was first brought up - you could tell Trump hadn’t heard a thing about it.

And there’s no way I’m sitting through a debate where John Kasich gets half the airtime.

His father was a mailman, you know.

Once again Trump shows good judgment. He has boosted Fox news ratings enough.

It’s a lose-lose for Fox. Hilarious.

Well, they made their bed with how the first debate was run.

I agree with him and he is right. No one wants any more debates there are no new revelations.

He’ll have 30 minutes to tell us that again, over and over.

I couldn’t pick 2 more boring candidates to put together than Kasich and Cruz. Oh, maybe Jeb too.

He’s not a “coward”, he already had an appointment and then they spring this on him and he’s supposed to cancel his plans and show up. Screw ‘em
