'I think it's enough,' Trump says about the primetime debates.
Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he will not participate in Monday's Fox News debate, and will instead speak at a conference of the pro-Israel lobby, AIPAC.
The Republican frontrunner was asked on "Fox & Friends" whether he planned to attend the debate in Utah, and said he couldn't because he made other plans.
Nobody told me about debates. As you saw I thought the last debate on CNN was the last debate," Trump said on Wednesday morning.
Im doing a major speech in front of a very important group of people that night," Trump said, adding that it had been "scheduled a while ago."
"I think it's enough," he added, about the dozen debates the Republican candidates have participated in so far.
Trump's comments come after he scored a big win on Florida on Tuesday night, knocking Marco Rubio out of the race. But he failed to clinch Ohio, potentially setting the GOP on the path for a brokered convention, with Ted Cruz and John Kasich still vying for the nomination.
The real estate mogul has been flirting for days with skipping the upcoming debate, which the Republican National Committee had set on Feb. 20. Trump had called last Thursday's debate hosted by CNN "a really nice way to finish off the debate season" and said he was not aware of other upcoming showdowns.
While it's not clear if Trump can reach the 1,237 delegates needed to secure the nomination, he has called on the GOP to unite behind him so that he can take on Hillary Clinton in the general election.
This wouldn't be the first time Trump has skipped a debate. He boycotted the Fox News showdown in Iowa in January, following a feud with Fox News host Megyn Kelly, and subsequently lost the state to Cruz. Trump later said that skipping the debate could have cost him the win.
Good. These ‘debates’ are a pointless waste of time.
No upside to him going to that debate.
How many advertisers are going to bail now.
If it is true that they sprung this date on Trump without any input from him, then he should definitely say FU.
I agree the “DEBATES” have turned into a fiasco...a waste of time
I am sick of watching them and hearing about them if I don’t watch them. I thought this cycle the RNC had decided to have less debates. It sure doesn’t feel that way.
And there’s no way I’m sitting through a debate where John Kasich gets half the airtime.
Smart since this “new debate” with the Fox News clowns moderating is nothing but a sleazy attempt at an ambush.
Good, I wanted to watch “Better Call Saul” anyway.
Tough call, I heard Paul Ryan may be there instead.
Coward.
He should skip, and so should Cruz. We’ve had enough debates, the candidates are well known in their positions.
At this point, the odds of earning new voters is heavily outweighed by the chance of making a gaffe and losing voters. Kasich will desperately want a debate, because a slip by either Trump or Cruz would give him a bump in the polls.
But strategically from Trump and Cruz’s positions, it makes no sense to debate anymore.
not to hijack the thread, but isn’t it about time for jimmy to become Saul?
I agree, these “DEBATES” have become fiascos..a complete waste of time
Good decision.
L
Cruz and Kasich in Utah. Proxies for Beck and Romney. Sounds like an internecine Mormon steel cage death match is shaping up. Undoubtedly Beck is brushing up on his Vertical Suplex, just in case he gets the tag from Ted...
more cowbell!!!!!
LMAO, nicely done

I agree. I love the show but it feels like it is LA Law: The Early Years. I wanna see Jimmy turn into Saul and become a criminal lawyer.
