What does immunity for Clinton email staffer signal?
CNN ^ | 3/05/16 | Danny Cevallos

**SNIP**

Talking to the government, or giving a "proffer," relinquishes the few advantages a defendant has: He gives up his constitutional privilege against self-incrimination, and more, he gives the government the defense's version of the case up front.

While Pagliano is surely in an unenviable, nail-biting position, we can draw some inferences from recent events. Whether he had zero potential liability, or some liability, he's probably not a "target." Why? Because if he were, his attorney would probably not let him talk to the government, and the government would probably not give him immunity. Remember, the government is parsimonious with immunity deals. Another, less reliable inference may be drawn not about Pagliano, but others who are not Pagliano.

The person who often has to worry the most during this process is the person who hasn't been approached at all by the government. That's a chilling indicator that you may be the target.

It means the FBI is considering charges against higher ups but that no decision has been made yet. Similar to the Freedom of Information case, Judge Sullivan is waiting on results of the discovery about the employment arrangement of Huma before issuing subpoenas.

Really?

He just got a free pass.

Unless you’re talking about whether he will be able to keep his life or not.

That some Republicans are dummies if you think any comes out of this against Hillary

At Best Huma or Cheryl Mills gets a plea deal and it's over.

What I suspect it means is that the DOJ is in Hillary’s pocket. They probably made a cake deal with this guy to ensure he won’t talk. Now that it’s done the new President won’t be able to undo it.

A grand jury has been impaneled.

Otherwise, no immunity could be given.

It probably means he is taking the fall. Full confession! He is to blame. Hillary is shocked.

Case closed. Move along. Nothing to see.

"The big question is whether there is a grand jury convened. The smart bet is yes. After all, the fact that there are immunity agreements logically means there's a grand jury investigation in some district."

DOUBLE secret grand jury!

The reports I’ve seen haven’t clarified if it is use or transactional immunity.

I have a theory that they are hanging this out there.. keeping it going... if it gets to a place in the election that they see Hillary cannot win, they’ll indict her to get her out of the race and stick in someone they think could win, maybe Biden.

Question for FR lawyers: can you refuse to talk unless granted full statutory immunity?

Dumb question, but can you still plead the fifth and do you have to agree to be given immunity or can it be forced upon you and then you’re compelled to testify?
