If you haven't listened to Rush Limbaugh's speech at CPAC, the Conservative Political Action Conference, in 2009, you should put it at the top of your must do list. If you have listened to it but not recently then do yourself a favor and listen to it again. It is an inspirational definition of conservatism.
He begins with this gem:
"Let me tell you who we conservatives are: We love people. When we look out over the United States of America, when we are anywhere, when we see a group of people, such as this or anywhere, we see Americans. We see human beings. We don't see groups. We don't see victims. We don't see people we want to exploit.
What we see -- what we see is potential. We do not look out across the country and see the average American, the person that makes this country work. We do not see that person with contempt. We don't think that person doesn't have what it takes. We believe that person can be the best he or she wants to be if certain things are just removed from their path like onerous taxes, regulations and too much government..."

That was the old CPAC, not like this group here, ready to gang up on one of it’s own.
I listened to Marco Rubio’s speech today. He is not my favorite candidate but he delivered an excellent conservative speech, only drifting into the current campaign a couple times.
His audience was made up of good people who care about their country. All of us may get a little carried away with our political beliefs on occasion but that doesn’t negate the fact that we love God; we love our country; and we love our brothers and want them all to succeed and live gratifying lives doing whatever it is that inspires and motivates them.
This is, indeed, the silly season and it will end.
Lately he's been accused of being part of the Eevil GOP establishment by the Trumpsters since he won't outright endorse Trump.
Yes, the definition of conservatism has changed here on FR.
Much of the time we can discuss the finer points of conservatism but this is an election year and it is not a time for philosophy. An election is a time for action and in that case we will argue relentlessly about the path to take because once the path is chosen there’s no turning back.
Yes, the definition of conservatism has changed here on FR.

This is of Rush’s own doing...not ours!
Rush Limbaugh Remarks to Conservatives - FEBRUARY 28, 2009
Rush’s speech at that time was the only flickering light I can remember in that very dark winter after the election and inauguration of Obama.....
The energy in the room must have been electric, he really has been a light in the darkness for so many. People once were cowed into silence by an omnipresent news oligarchy propagandizing an alien philosophy and Rush made people realize they were not alone in conservative thought; that it was good, it was right and it was true.
I first heard Rush on the radio in 1992. Since then I don't think he has ever endorsed anyone who didn't have the necessary votes to get the nomination unless he was running unopposed or was an incumbent.
I may be wrong but don't think so.
I may be wrong but don't think so.
You're right Steve. That's when I started listening to Rush too and he has never endorsed a candidate before the nomination process.
My point was that Rush isn't regarded in too high esteem by the Trump trolls who have recently invaded FR.
