When I see what has become of the neighborhood that I grew up in I wanna throw up. Very sad. Yes, I miss some food, sports and wandering the historic areas, but not so much anymore.

If they had been black, there's no way the man who was assaulted could be declared a victim who shot in self defense.

It is smack in the middle of Queens Village, usually a very nice neighborhood. Glad the old guy took out the trash, so to speak.

Oh, I thought you meant where the shooting took place -- Queen Village, upper south east Philly. Upper Darby is indeed all the way outside the southwest perimater of Philly.

It is. Upper Darby used to be a decent blue collar White neighborhood. Now it’s full of crime, Blacks, and a bunch of third world immigrants. Search FR for the story where a group of Black High School kids attacked a uniformed cop.

and how about a year or two ago when a couple of 13 and 14-year old urbanyoots killed a white man out walking his dog.

Okay that in fact agrees with what someone else told me as well. The article reminded me of an email I had received from a friend about a neighborhood in Philly. Wasn’t sure if the neighborhood in the article was near the same area as Queen Village.

Can’t tell you how many times I walked all over that area of Queen Village, South Street, Two Street where all the Mummer’s Clubs are, South Fourth street where the fabric stores are, etc. Really surprised at the attitude of those young guys. Then again, I got out years ago, after having been burgled and robbed (once at gunpoint) several times. And that’s just by the peoplle from the projects, not even accounting for the adolescent mafia sons and daughters around my neighborhood.

Went to Philly area once for a Jewish friend of mine’s wedding. Can’t remember if it was in Philly or one of the outskirt cities. It was at a real nice hotel ballroom,. Having been a Redskins fan for many years and seeing how rough the crowds were at the stadium, I just never had any real interest in visiting there. I may be remembering a false memory, but it seems like I had gone there as a child and saw the Liberty Bell. But it would have been before the age of six, because that was when my dad got stationed in Tokyo Japan.

There was actually a courtroom and a jail in the bottom of the old JFK stadium, the fans are so rabid. I imagine there is one in the new stadium, also.

Ha, didn't remember the color of JFK but The Vet was "the big white one" done in poured concrete. Here are the three with The Vet at the top, Spectrum middle and JFK bottom.

Oh, thanks. Memories of specifics like that fading. I had a freelance job at the Vet one time, and that is how I knew about the jail (wasn’t me thrown in there, though!). Went to the arenas with JW several times to see the arena music shows — can’t forget the Yes band’s spectacular special effects. One time I laid on the pavement outside the Spectrum all night (with a bunch of other fans) to get R.E.M. tickets when they opened the box office at 6 AM.
