Marco Rubio’s Immigration Dilemma
National Review Online ^ | February 24, 2016 | JOHN FONTE

Can he persuade conservatives that his immigration bill is really a reform? What would a President Marco Rubio do about immigration?

To attempt to answer this question, let us review the past, analyze the present, and prognosticate about the future. The core framework of the Schumer-Rubio immigration bill (S-744) of 2013 was first developed in the failed Kennedy-McCain legislation of 2005. For example, on amnesty, Kennedy-McCain proposed an immediate "Z visa" for illegal immigrants, while Schumer-Rubio granted immediate "provisional" status. Although technically on "probation," the illegal immigrants were essentially granted immediate amnesty under both bills (including work permits and Social Security cards) before any guarantee of border security was put in place.

Chris Crane, the head of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) union, told Breitbart News that Schumer-Rubio was actually "weaker" than current law. There were over 1,000 waivers, which gave the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) the power to bypass enforcement. The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services Council, which represents 12,000 federal employees, denounced Schumer-Rubio, declaring: "It was deliberately designed to undermine the integrity of our lawful immigration system."

Further, the ICE Officers Council stated: "The 1,200-page substitute bill before the Senate will provide instant legalization and a path to citizenship to gang members and other dangerous criminal aliens." Moreover, the Congressional Budget Office declared that S-744 would not stop most illegal immigration. The CBO forecast that Schumer-Rubio would reduce illegal immigration by only one-third to one-half. And the bill would almost double legal (overwhelmingly low-skilled) immigration. This is a much larger increase than under Kennedy-McCain.

Rubio is an open border, H1B, illegal immigrant loving tool... he’s beholden to the same stalwarts that have run the GOP and the Dems for decade.. he’s a non starter as far as I am concerned.

He can’t even win his home state in the primary, if that doesn’t tell you this guy is a dud, nothing will.... Now if folks would just realize this about Santorum as well, we could stop have to deal with his head popping up ever 4 years as well.

If Rubio is the nominee, I can tell you, that I will not pull the lever for him.. I will no longer be an accomplice to the selling out of my nation.

A very selective editing. I listed to Rubio and did not understand this posting.

Here is my observation following Nevada. The rest of the pack, including the RNC better get with it and back Trump before they make themselves irrelevant and no longer part of the equation. Soon and very soon, Trump could care less what they do.

Anchor Baby. His position on immigration is exactly why the Constitution requires a "Natural Born Citizen" for the office of POTUS.

The GOPe is solidly behind Rubio. They are hoping he knocks off Trump. All of the candidates in the race of the moderate wing who have dropped out, their supporters are the ones now propelling Rubio. Consider them irrelevant because that is what they are. They care nothing about Americans or America, only doing as their masters command who enrich their bottom lines.

The words I had in mind obviously were describing him as I see him, but I didn’t want to actually put them on this board. But yes anchor baby is an accurate descriptive word that I could have used that would have also been correct and safe to write, LOL.

Rubio was never about the conservative, but rather Rubio. He has gladly exposed himself because he thinks this is a smart career move. He will be challenged for his Senate seat, and I doubt he will win reelection.

Gang of Eight Rubio has shown he is very easy to manipulate. He can’t think on his feet if he gets off his memorized talking points. The former Tea Party favorite is now extolled by the GOPe and their willing partner at Fox.

Right now he is not running for re-election to the Senate. He has even said he will not run for it;

BUT;

The filing deadline is not until June 28th but I do know he will have a very tough time trying to salvage that because of the lies he convinced us of back in 2010 to beat Charlie Crist. At least he was a moderately (no pun intended) place holder for most everything else he actually found the time to vote on.

Of the declared candidates, Ron DeSantis is my choice as of right now. The primary is August 30th.

Nope, he looked much too happy with Schumer patting him on the azz, with some of my money still in his pocket.

He’s pumped after last nights 2nd place finish. If he can knock Ted out on Super Tuesday then he is running neck to neck with Trump or so he thinks. He figures he will get most of Ted’s support because of the feuding going on between, not only Ted & Trump, but their respective supporters as well. I think he has miscalculated on that as well.

look at Big Sugar for the Rubio money train.
The Fanjul family, U.S. sugar needs those cheep laborers.
Also they need the EPA in their pocket so as to keep being allowed to burn their fields and pollute our water.

No, Rubio is a liar who has no chance of convincing enough decent Americans to win. He betrayed us after promising not to, and I wouldn’t believe him if he (finally) said the right thing.

I keyed in on this exchange:

‘Schieffer asked Rubio directly: “Well, if you became president, would you sign the bill that you put together into law?” Rubio responded, “Well, that’s a hypothetical that will never happen.”

Was Rubio talking about his Presidency that will never happen?
