SALT LAKE CITY — The Republican National Committee announced it will be holding a presidential debate in Salt Lake City in March.

The debate, which will be held on March 21 in Salt Lake City, was decided upon by the RNC's Debate Committee after the committee met on Saturday and decided another debate would be beneficial to the selection process. The March debate will be the first presidential debate the state of Utah has hosted.

"Look at the punch Utah has nationally in Republican circles. The Republican committee recognizes that," Utah GOP Chairman James Evans said. "Utah has become a must-visit state. This only formalizes that by having a debate here."

They think every time Trump gets into a debate it costs him votes so there will be debates every week until he loses.

Was this debate awarded to Utah as a fop to Utah GOP donors? Certainly reads that way...nice to see the GOP acting like the NFL handing out Superbowl host sites to cities that pay for new stadiums.

Utah, solidly Republican, has about 40 delegates (which seems high for a population of 3 million), and 6 electoral votes. I think this is more that the RNC is still trying to take Trump out. The “powers that be” (*cough* mormon church *cough*) that run the state don’t like him, and this seems to be more of an ambush than anything. That’s my two cents worth, anyway.

I can only imagine what was going through the RNC’s heads when they made this decision. Rubio doesn’t stand a chance once Trump goes off script with the GOPe’s last hope.

Their only competition was Arizona (both vote March 22),
well so does American Samoa, but they weren’t going to get it.

Best thing Trump can do in Utah is just smile, be agreeable and say as little as possible. They’re going to be gunning for him and trying to get him riled. Time for a little Reaganesque humor and good natured ribbing and maybe a little self-deprecation. They can’t touch him if he doesn’t fall into their traps.

Don’t forget all the Mormons, and wasn’t Rubio raised LDS? But I have to say that Rubio looks more like a bell hop to me.

Rubio got attacked by Bush but he hasn’t had both of Trumps barrells pointed at him yet. I think he’ll drop once that happens and Cruz will pick back up as a result of that attention not being on him anymore.

His performance with evangelicals was bad but With the war chest he has, it might not be life support. How do you see it?
