Islam cannot be reformed, IMHO.
It is what its founder made it. You either accept what the religion is, according to the quran and hadith and whatever else they subscribe to, or you don’t. You can’t get Mohammed to revise his thinking and writings.
If you don’t accept what islam is, do some searching and change your religion. Be aware, though, that it may cost you your life. Islam frowns on those who reject it.
That's easy - Their playbook is called the Koran.
1 Define Radical Islam (President Obama has refrained from connecting terrorism with Islam).
2. Fight the militants more effectively.
3. Use effective negative deterrents to deter the radicals from committing more attacks.
4. Support theological reforms within Islam that encourage peaceful co-existence. Never happen. Islam cannot be 'reformed' unless Mohammad and the Second given Half are removed, leaving almost zero difference between it and parts of the Bible. This guy knows this and is spouting taqyyia using his supposed 'reformed' credential to pull the wool over the average westerner's eyes.
5. Support effective educational tactics to counter the thinking traits that breeds radicalism (such as absolutism, being judgmental, literal understanding of the Islamic texts). What breeds 'radicalism' is Islam itself; there is no alternative, no reformation, no education that can change this short of throwing out most of the koran, and all of the other four holy books which explain the meaning of the koran's suras.
6. Support what I call Shaking the Foundation strategy (SFS), to make the radicals lose trust in their religious texts, and the basic tenets/foundations of Islamism. Bogus. Misdirection. Any Imam, cleric or similar can easily destroy such a ploy.
7. Weaken the hijab phenomenon via the use of several approaches and tactics.
This is part and parcel of the MSN's tactic to get the western public to imagine that there is a direct similarity between Islam and Christianity. There is none and are as opposite as it is possible to get in a religious philosophy. Notice also that there is no reference to Sharia the political side of this Arab dogma. That is something most westerners would miss, but is a 100% guarantee that everything in the interview, the interviewer, and the interviewee are a setup and lies (taqyyia).
If the imams had to rely on the contributions of their congregations to keep their mosques open, there would be fewer mosques and fewer radicals.
How can it be reformed? it’s a violent, world-expansionist ideology cleverly disguised as a religion.

The cure is treat Islam for what it is : EVIL. No excuses. No respect for it or pretending we can live with it. It cannot be reformed . It must be defeated.
At the foundation of islam are the children of Ishmael, an ass of a man, who along with his children, was cursed so by God. We will not be shed of this cancer, we can only corral it and violently remove the spread of its tumors, using burial with pig entrails to show as an example of our intolerance for islam.
The institution of Political Correctness, more properly known as Communism, will prevent the steps prescribed above.
