Senior U.S. Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonin Scalia found dead at West Texas ranch

Associate Justice Antonin Scalia was found dead of apparent natural causes Saturday on a luxury resort in West Texas, federal officials said.

Scalia, 79, was a guest at the Cibolo Creek Ranch, a resort in the Big Bend region south of Marfa. According to a report, Scalia arrived at the ranch on Friday and attended a private party with about 40 people. When he did not appear for breakfast, a person associated with the ranch went to his room and found a body.

U.S. District Judge Fred Biery said he was among those notified about Scalia's death.

"I was told it was this morning," Biery said of Scalia's death. "It happened on a ranch out near Marfa. As far as the details, I think it's pretty vague right now as to how," he said. "My reaction is it's really unfortunate with any death. And now, politically, in the presidential cycle we're in my educated guess is nothing will happen before the next president is elected."

RIP Scalia. He had the best mind on the Court. He will be sorely missed and we’re much worse off without him.

Grassley: “No confirmation during an election... as has been done for the last 80 years.”

Chair of the Judiciary Committee.

I’m sure Kennedy enjoys the power of being the swing vote.

CBS News reports that Sen Cruz and Sen Rubio have made statements that the next President should appoint the new Supreme Court Justice.

I agree with this.

The very best outcome from this terrible, terrible news is that President Trump nominates Ted Cruz to the Supreme Court. This way both men are working to the best fulfillment of their skill sets!

Would Obama be out of Office before new Senate gets confirmed?

Well, actually it wouldn’t. Brennan was the last one. He was on the court for quite some time.

It’s easy to avoid that, though. Just don’t recess.

Anyway, the drumbeat on this is going to build into a crescendo in no time. By the time the media and the Dems get done with this, you would think the republic will collapse by next week.

This election cycle is so tedious to begin with, this crap is going to drive us nuts.

Because Trump believes his liberal sister is a great judge. Not very rational.

Didn’t he do that before though, appoint people when the congress wasn’t in recess but he claimed that they were. I don’t put anything past the Rats.

There should still be an autopsy. They’re done all the time in the case of a sudden, unexpected death.

Yes, he was 79, but he was also a Supreme Court justice, the court is now split 4-4 at best, and it’s a crucial election year. An autopsy is definitely appropriate here.

Meaning that the congress is sworn in 2 wks before the pres. Not sure, but that’s what I recall.
