What About Ted Cruz?
New York Times ^ | FEB. 9, 2016 | Thomas B. Edsall

Despite Donald Trump's victory in New Hampshire, what is the chance that Republicans will nominate Ted Cruz and that he will go on to win the presidency?

The website ElectionBettingOdds gives Cruz a 14.5 percent chance of winning the nomination - his victory in the Iowa caucuses and what looks like a third place showing in New Hampshire notwithstanding. It puts his chances of actually winning the presidency at 4.3 percent.

From the article:

"Cruz is an army of one, alienating anybody who is in his path. He advocates losing strategies purely to further his own career at the expense of the party.

The second basis for Republican animosity toward Cruz is the widespread conviction that Cruz would not only lose in a landslide, but that he would bring the Republican Senate majority and many House Republicans down with him."

I like Ted Cruz. I think he would make a good president. I think he may have the best chance of winning the primaries. But it appears that Republican insiders would not allow him to be nominated and not support him if he were the nominee.

This article names two reasons: Cruz is out to further his own career at the expense of the Republican Party and Cruz would cause other Republican candidates to lose.

The article says Democrats should vote for Cruz in the Republican primaries because he will be the weakest Republican candidate and the easiest to beat.

Cruz will be competitive in closed caucuses like Santorum was 4 years ago.

In an open primary like in SC he won’t stand a chance.

Surprising third place finish in NH when most polls had him finishing in 5th.

The fact he is hated by the GOP-E and NYTimes makes me like him that much more.

I wonder if we should let the NY times determine our candidates?

The Frumpsters have really wrapped themselves in the comfort of every Leftist rag in the country.

The NYT has become the Frumpster gospel.

He’s going to make a fine vice president. Will likely cast the deciding tiebreaker vote to overturn Obamacare. So many Gope will vote with the rats and big pharma.

As a Trump supporter I think the NYT is a slimy piece of crap. While I have serious questions about Cruz like votes and financial backers, I think he is running because in his opinion he would be the best for America and would never take anything the NYT says seriously.

I believe we lost track of Osama in 2001 because the NYT published how they were being tracked by their cell phones. NYT always putting American interests first...NOT!

Cruz outperformed in New Hampshire and gets bonus points for keeping Bush out of the top three. He’ll be hard to beat in the South.

Crossover ‘RATS to the “rescue” to help defeat Cruz? Oh...so like Mississippi.

This article is a misinformed hit piece by a typical source. While no one would deny Cruz has an uphill climb, the writer is out to hurt him.

The prediction markets give Cruz a 25% chance of winning SC, vs. 60% for Trump

I worry about any semi decent candidate in the SC primary because it is a state that elected Nikki Haley and continues to re-elect the despicable Lindsey Graham. I have family there and they admit it is weird.

It looks bad that the moment you hit the Senate, you are already looking to run for president. It makes everything you do look self-serving, fair or not.

We knocked both Obama and Hillary for this.

You’re fooling yourself if you believe this.

The media LOVES Trump... At least when comparing Trump to a conservative.

They think he is fantastic.

The establishment? Ever hear the term the enemy of my enemy is my friend. Who has a track record of playing the money game? Trump. Who has a record of telling his party leadership to pound sand regarding falling in line with the party? Cruz.

Cruz represents a greater threat to the establishment than Trump ever will.

The biggest crowds Trump brought out so far were all in the south.

Get ready for some shocking results in SC.

Yeah that what we need, degenerate gamblers to weigh in. We’ve seen all the “experts” were and are wrong so why not poll in gin mills and casinos?

“The Frumpsters have really wrapped themselves in the comfort of every Leftist rag in the country”

You mean like no Cruz people ever once posted anything from this paper, or Huffington post, or buzzfeed, or salon?

Please, oh pious Cruz backer, lie to us and say they have not. I want to just see your post flat out saying that.
