Saudi Arabia's fresh public willingness to send ground troops into Syria is drawing ridicule from the kingdom's chief regional rival.
The commander of Iran's revolutionary guard on Saturday mocked Saudi Arabia's declaration that it is prepared to commit ground troops to fight ISIS in war-torn Syria.
"They claim they will send troops (to Syria), but I don't think they will dare do so," Maj. Gen. Ali Jafari told reporters in Tehran, according to Iran's semiofficial Fars news agency. "They have a classic army and history tells us such armies stand no chance in fighting irregular resistance forces."
"This will be like a coup de grace for them. Apparently, they see no other way but this, and if this is the case, then their fate is sealed," Jafari added, according to Fars.
Iran and Saudi Arabia, led by regimes representing opposing Islamic sects, already are bitter rivals. A years-long civil war in Syria has stoked tensions - Iran is one of the Syrian regime's few allies, while Saudi Arabia has given financial aid and weapons to rebels.

Who are the Saudis kidding, we’ve been their military for decades.
Is Obama the Iranian type of Muslim orvthe Saudimkind, anyone know?
Obama has setup a New War in the Middle East so he can sit back watch and play with himself
The Saudi Army put down an Iranian backed Shia rebellion in Bahrain.
And it has at least achieved a stalemate in Oman against another Iranian backed Shia rebel group when the Oman Sunni government collapsed.
The Saudis have ~3k men in their Special Forces in an Army of ~175k.
Which is not enough to fight in Oman, put down any Shia rebellion in the Northeast of their country, and fight effectively in Syria.
But it seems the Saudis are expanding and upgrading their Special Forces despite $30/barrel oil and cuts in the welfare state.
This Iranian lowlife happens to be right. The Saudis are desperate to stop the Russians who are killing and destroying the Saudi funded Sunni jihadists in Syria and Iraq. The huge Saudi investment will be lost and the Saudis will be surrounded by hostile, well armed entities. The Saudi army is a joke. It is combat ineffective and its soldiers will not die for the corrupt, decadent House of Saud, who are at the core of 9/11.
I think the Iranian kind.. Val Jar is an Iranian.. sooo..
His hatred of America trumps all - so he goes either way I’m pretty sure.
Sunni

Both. As long as the group is anti US Obama is for it.
They haven’t been able to tame Yemen and they think they will start another adventure?
No more, I suspect. Obama (and Valjar) seem to prefer the Persian form of Islam to the Saudi sect.
Considering that, and looking at the ME map, I can see why the Saudis would get nervous. Iran, through ISIS, controls a considerable portion of Iraq and Syria already. If both fall completely, SA's entire northern border is exposed.
All those oil wells and Mecca too - very tempting.
Makes me laugh that an Iranian is mocking other countries Army. Wasn’t this the same Iran that for eight years could not put a dent against Saddam Husein’s Iraqi forces? The same Iraq that was defeated by the USA in a matter of weeks.
Only 1,400 years of incest and the consequential genetic degradation of IQ could produce this statement:
“They have a classic army and history tells us such armies stand no chance in fighting irregular resistance forces.”
Putin would disagree. Ask the ‘irregulars on the receiving end of his strikes.
The problem for Saudi Arabia is that it has a small population and many are wealthy; they import other Muslims (including non-Arabs) to do all the work in the kingdom. Like Kuwait, they’ll find out that those foreigners won’t die for their rich monarchies. A friend who trained with Saudis before Gulf War I described how they would simply call for a jeep rather than do the marches - and nobody intervened.
Oman is neither Sunni nor Shia. They are majority Ibadi, which is a distinct sect. Iran never backed a rebel group in Oman. In fact, Iran and Oman have very good relations. You must either be thinking of another country or imagining things.
