Just trying to lift hitlary into those pantsuits.
I watched a video of the boom being lowered, everything appeared fine until it got to about 45 degrees and it increased in speed and collapsed.
My opinion is that a wind gust caught the boom, literally pushing the boom down and flipping the cab and crawlers upside down.
Remember, in Manhattan the high buildings form barriers, channels for the wind, concentrating the force because it is contained between the buildings.
This rig was lowering the boom as a safety measure as recommended by the manufacturer.
How do I know? I ran long boom crawler cranes in New Jersey, and the wind is the same and will make a believer out of you when it grabs the boom, sphincter check time.
I refuse to walk on streets that have cranes. My friends are sick of hearing me go ballistic every time another one falls.

That’s exactly where I got off the bus to go to work 3 weeks ago before we relocated to WTC! Would’ve missed that crash, still fearful of an impending one!
On TV the mayor claims it has been 8 years since the last crane collapse. Doesn't really seem that long though.
should say: annual fatal crane collapse in nyc.
Going to take a few cutting torches to remove it.

May 2015 a crane collapsed in Manhattan...another in January 2013 near the East River...
