Does Bezos have so much money he likes to lose it. Brick and mortar bookstores used or new are generally a losing proposition today.

This just doesn’t make sense to me. Books? What? Cheaper? Where you gotta drive to? Are they trying to replace library’s?

Hard to believe.

This could be interesting. A brick and mortar for deliveries based on Amazon.com

Forgo the 99 bucks and still get 2 day shipping.

Just a thought.

Readers love to browse books in a store, then buy from Amazon. Now that most bookstores have closed, browsing is way off and Amazon book sales are down. So Amazon needs to open up physical stores in order to encourage browsing again.

Wait, Amazon sells books? Who knew?

It's pretty good now - Prime and a two-day delivery. If this gets them to a one-day delivery they might stand a chance. Otherwise, how on earth will they keep the place competitively stocked? This one might be fun to watch.

So, he was just driving Borders and Barnes & Nobles out of business?

Big mistake. Just when readers are switching from hard copies to e-books? Doesn’t make sense.

I’m hoping to get a piece of their upcoming Buggy Whip franchise ...

As long as they pay $15.00 per hour at a minimum it’s ok - otherwise Bezos is a capitalist and not the socialist he like to make himself out to be.

Submitted for your approval...

Wouldn’t buy from Amazon if I had to. They support PP and abortion.

Maybe they’re trying to put Barnes & Noble out of business.

Dumb move. A lot of mall and small, independent bookstores went out of business when Amazon came about. They just couldn’t compete with the prices or convenience. Borders, B. Dalton, Waldenbooks, Lauriat’s, among others, closed after Amazon became popular. I’m not willing to waste gas, and driving time, nor am I willing to walk through a mall, to purchase books I can order online, and have delivered to my door. I buy a lot of used books on Amazon, then swap them through a book-swap site for books I want. I have a Kindle too, but don’t buy as many of those as I do used books.

Two day delivery and cut UPS bill to almost nothing by delivering to just 400 or so stores, within said region, for local pickup...

Best to assume it’s not stupid, and discern what’s smart about it.

By doing this, Amazon...
encroaches on competing brick and mortar turf
establishes pickup options
lowers shipping costs
builds local mini warehouses
enables physical browsing
facilitates “one hour” shipping

There is nothing like browsing around a bookstore.
