National Review's editor Rich Lowry is thrilled Donald Trump didn't win in Iowa on Monday, and he thinks January's special issue of the magazine, titled "Conservatives Against Trump," had something to do with it.
The conservative publication came out with an editorial and essays from 22 prominent conservatives, effectively declaring war on the Republican Party's poll leader just days before GOP primary voters cast their first ballots of the 2016 election cycle.
Lowry began by thanking those who had participated in the issue and other anti-Trump conservatives, like super PAC founder Katie Packer, just after Cruz's win was announced on Monday night via Twitter:

It was consistent with all the polls.
5,000 vote difference.
Trump was lucky to finish second. Had Carson, Huckabee, and Santorum not been in the race that’s another 14 points 2/3 of which likely earned by Cruz.
8 delegates to 7 to 6.
Cruz. Trump. Rubio.

I think it’s awfully early for anyone to be taking a victory lap over Cruz’s miniscule eaking out of a delegate lead.
NR, I would think, had little to do with it.
It is NR and their ilk over the past years, that made Trump as popular as he was.
I’ve seen a few elections and I’m quite sure I’ve never witnessed the likes of an election like this where the same party tries with such vigor to destroy someone within the party. Usually that’s the job of the opposition party.

Lowry has gone full kook.
If anything it splits Cruz/Rubio as the anti-trump.
John McCain finished 4th in 2008.
They seem to think they can win without the Trump voters, they think wrongly.
If Trump beat Cruz, Cruz would not win another state and Rubio would be the guy they all got behind. Rand is probably siphoning votes off Cruz as well.
Their guy will be Rubio, and everyone I know, Cruz and Trump voters alike agree, we will stay home.
Savor it while you can.
I’d be willing to bet that only a tiny number of people in IA or elsewhere ever even heard of NR, much less know anything about their Trump Derangement Syndrome issue.
Chances of that happening are remote to say the least. Nobody but Media scum and those who were already congenital Trump haters would even bother to read such spew.
I seriously doubt it changed a vote.
Yeah, right. All 74 people in Iowa who subscribe to NR did this.
So the guy who was polling a close second on the day their life certain comes out finishes ... a close second ... And they are claiming credit...
One more reason for Kasich and Christie to show out in NH.
Stem the Rubio buzz and kill the GOPe.
