Trump Slams Evangelical Leader Vander Plaats on Twitter

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump unleashed a slew of Twitter attacks on Iowa evangelical leader Bob Vander Plaats Sunday morning, the second time he has done so in less than a week.

Trump says that Vander Plaats, head of the Iowa-based Family Leader, asked him to stay in his hotels for free and also requested he speak at an event while seeking $100,000 for himself.

He made the same statements on Tuesday in a similar Twitter storm. At that time, Vander Plaats said he and his family stayed for free in Trump's hotels because Trump insisted he do so in hopes of getting his endorsement. When Vander Plaats instead backed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Trump attacked, Vander Plaats said.

As to Trump's claim that Vander Plaats sought $100,000 for himself, the Des Moines Register's chief political reporter Jennifer Jacobs contacted the group to whom Trump spoke.

The paper found that Trump was paid $100,000 to speak at Iowa's Land Investment Expo a year ago, directly contradicting Trump’s claim.

While the speech was Vander Plaats' idea, he was paid nothing, records showed.

There was no indication why Trump chose Sunday morning to reignite his Vander Plaats attacks, but caucusing is set for the Hawkeye State Monday night. Trump is in the lead in the latest polls, but Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is nipping at his heels.

Vander Plaats also replied to Trump on Sunday, saying his endorsement can't be bought.

An actual Christian conservative such as Trump now claims to be would never treat Vander Plaats that way. Or anyone else for that matter.

“Trump’s the who said he’s a great Christian”

I’d say that Vander Plaats and Trump both have flaws that they ought to clean up. But don’t hold Vander Plaats up as a paragon of virtue. His virtue seems to be up for trade, as he has admitted himself.

No mania. His numbers say he’s going to win. And how can he be worse than these representatives of failed Washington? There’s no doubt what I’ll get with them. More of the same.

Why is that with Trump supporters EVERYONE else is bad/wrong and Donald is always right? Vander Plaats has said he said he would pay for his accommodations. Do you want to try to tell that Trump is a man of high moral character, too? C’mon, please. Let’s go. I’d love to see you and others defend a serial adulterer, a strip club owner, a supporter of infanticide for much of his life, etc. Much like Obama in 2008 (and I’m not carrying the comparison further, Trump’s supporters are making a blank slate and believing he will bring border security, hope and change. It’s great to see RINOs like Bob Dole, who opposed Reagan, getting behind Trump. When people like Dole support your man, you ought to be able to get a clue.

You must be very young. Most any adult would recognize that an attack on someone’s church as a personal attack.
Especially when made by someone with no actual facts.

Maybe if you hang around here long enough; you will learn what conservatism is actually about.

Conservatives have some beliefs that are non negotiable. We are not star struck by a loud talking; pandering person such as Trump.
Trump has fooled a lot of people; but given no specifics on what he would do.

Maybe you watch his TV show and like him because of that; if so; that’s not a good reason to support him.
Your probably a good person that just needs to mature a bit.

Calling a thief and a beggar a thief and a beggar? That is all I see. (I am Pro Trump) Van Der Plaat sounds like a greasy grifter IMHO.

“Vander Plaats has said he said he would pay for his accommodation”

He sold his virtue and has been exposed. He can’t get it back by belatedly by paying for belatedly once caught that which he owed upfront.

He sold his relationship with God for lux accomodations. You think he can simply buy it back?

Vander Plaats deserves your scorn, not your lame excuses. How else will he learn?

“It’s mindless worship, people. We are very close to making a big mistake.”

Very similar to the Obama supporters in 2008. No critical questions are asked.
Our nation was designed to have an informed electorate; I don’t see a lot of that.

asking if a discount is available is not a shakedown.

MANY if not most business have discounts for Seniors, AAA members, children, non profits ect.

Inquiring if any such discounts are available is NOT a shakedown.

The Lord also said there would be a strong delusion in the end times. i’m beginning to think Trump worship may come under that umbrella. He is not the savior people seem to think he is.

So, you’re saying he sold his relationship with God for luxury accommodations? Are you kidding? Have you ever heard of forgiveness? And have you heard of removing the beam in your own eye so that you can see the mote in your brother’s eye. Vander Plaats deserves little scorn and his sin is miniscule compared to a man who says he needs little forgiveness from God (how stinking arrogant and proud can a man/Trump be?) Pride is listed in Proverbs as one of the seven deadly sins — and there are few men more proud and prideful than Donald Trump. It’s amazing that most Trump supporters haven’t grasped their man is continually guilty of one of the greatest sins. As if that isn’t enough, he is a serial adulterer, a strip club owner and abusive in the way he talks about women (Carly Fiona, Megyn Kelly). When it’s all said and done, we’ll see what God says about killing unborn children, something Trump has supported most of his life. (It is better that a millstone be placed about the neck of these people, the Bible says). Mr. Vander Plaats has his flaws, and so does Ted Cruz, but these men stand tall compared to Trump.

I agree with what you are saying. We need to pray that God Himself, God willing, will derail the candidacy of Donald Trump. I’ve been asking my friends to pray in this manner. He is a very proud man and it seems that he has a great road ahead, but miracles happen and God can take him down. I pray so.
