Trump Slams Evangelical Leader Vander Plaats on Twitter
Newsmax ^ | Sunday, 31 Jan 2016 | Greg Richter

Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump unleashed a slew of Twitter attacks on Iowa evangelical leader Bob Vander Plaats Sunday morning, the second time he has done so in less than a week.

Trump says that Vander Plaats, head of the Iowa-based Family Leader, asked him to stay in his hotels for free and also requested he speak at an event while seeking $100,000 for himself.

He made the same statements on Tuesday in a similar Twitter storm. At that time, Vander Plaats said he and his family stayed for free in Trump's hotels because Trump insisted he do so in hopes of getting his endorsement. When Vander Plaats instead backed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, Trump attacked, Vander Plaats said.

As to Trump's claim that Vander Plaats sought $100,000 for himself, the Des Moines Register's chief political reporter Jennifer Jacobs contacted the group to whom Trump spoke.

The paper found that Trump was paid $100,000 to speak at Iowa's Land Investment Expo a year ago, directly contradicting Trump’s claim.

While the speech was Vander Plaats' idea, he was paid nothing, records showed.

There was no indication why Trump chose Sunday morning to reignite his Vander Plaats attacks, but caucusing is set for the Hawkeye State Monday night. Trump is in the lead in the latest polls, but Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is nipping at his heels.

Vander Plaats also replied to Trump on Sunday, saying his endorsement can't be bought.

The Twitter exchange is on the web page where you find the article.

This is typical Trump, and it goes to temperament. Does a guy who behaves like this have the temperament to stand up to Hillary, to Putin, to the Ayatollah? Does this guy have the temperament to get his program _- whatever it may be this week -- through Congress? Does he have the temperament to lead the Free World?

Think about that when you vote.

Because he didn’t endorse him, just like Huckleberry.

So what’s the alternative. Crazy Trump or blah Huckabee/Kasich/Rubio/Fiorina/Santorum.

Does a guy that drags around Crazy Beck and threatens voters have the temperament to be President?

But Trump didn’t say Plaats got 100,000. He said he was asking for it. Plaats was also accused of selling his endorsement to Santorum for one million, and also accused by the Romney campaign of seeking the same thing from team Romney. Plaats escaped punishment by the FEC by a slim vote.

It also goes directly to the notion that he PAID Palin, Drudge and Breitbart. He pays people to like him and rages against those that don’t.

There are those who seem eager to forfeit their soul to gain the world, or at least a six figure chunk of it.

Vander Plaats goes to the same church I go to; I will trust Vander Plaats any day over someone like Trump.

Trump is vindictive and will viciously attack anyone who doesn’t worship him.

Not what our nations Founders had in mind for a principled leader.

People here supporting him will get VERY tired of him once the glow wears off.

Really, a preacher for hire? And you question Trump’s temperament?

On this one I do not blame Trump... Those that bash after begging for dollars deserve to be outed.

There is a difference in being around with crazies and BEING crazy. Ted might show up around with crazy Beck, but Trump IS crazy! Big difference.

Do it my way, or else.

Not a good attitude in someone with their finger on the button.

Vander Plaats said he and his family stayed for free in Trump's hotels

He did stay for free, which is all you need to know. When ole Vandy wanted much more from Trump for an endorsement Trump told him to take a hike. That's how I read it.

Plaats has probably scammed you out of money, using those same direct mailer methods that are screwing over Ben Carson’s campaign.

A fool is easily parted from his money.

Definitely not. His behavior indicates he may be mentally ill.

He gushes over anyone who says something positive about him but will try to personally destroy with lies anyone who endorses a rival candidate.

And he seems to hold grudges for a long time as well.

He is so thin skinned every little perceived slight bothers him and he can't let anything go. Trump definitely does not have the temperament to be commander in chief.

Trump speaks the truth. Too bad some pearl clutchers can’t take it. This is why sane people are voting for Trump.

So there you go.   Thanks for the second opinion.   Des Moines Register was never a friend of Trump either.
