Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump on Saturday presented a check for $100,000 to an organization that trains dogs for veterans with PTSD and mobility issues.

Trump gave the check to the Puppy Jake Foundation during a campaign rally in Davenport, Iowa, with Liberty University President Jerry Falwell, Jr.

Three dogs and Puppy Jake representatives came onstage to receive the donation...

my daughter has a sweet lab since he was 6 weeks old and is training him for the blind, she will have him a year and then have to give him back fully trained...its going to be hard cause she loves that little bugger...the Organization if for the blind in Rochester, michigan...they have been doing it since 1939 and that pup learns fast.

A small group probably not in business too long...the Leader Dogs for the Blind in Michigan is totally self supporting via donations. There is a video on them, they also have a program in one of the prisons and those trained have a higher rate of acceptions than others....Many of their pups are from females that didn’t quite make the cut...mostly labs. The prisoners cry when they have to turn the dogs over, but they feel like that did something good...great video on youtube

Also, when people brag about how much they give to charity - I am not impressed and I get suspicious about their true motives.

Not saying how much I give to charity, just that it could be a lot more. if the gov. didn’t rob me, to redistribute to people and causes they deem worthy.

I’ve heard the Puppy Jake folks on the radio many times here. There are lots of expenses during the training...including some things that had never occurred to me.

One example: the dogs need to be able to go everywhere, so they have training “trips” where the dogs go on a plane, spend time in very large cities (like NYC), hotels, taxis, etc.

They basically have to experience as many things as possible during their training years before beginning their life as a service dog with their eventual owner/best friend.

I don’t know HOW the volunteer trainers do it...they spend a couple of years raising & training the dog from puppyhood until graduation. The dogs go everywhere with them; and then the doggie leaves for its permanent home. They know it going in of course, and say that it is very hard to let go. I’m not sure I could do it!

do i have a narcissistic personality? i dont mean to make them about me :)

i was GLAD to find out he put up a million bucks in ‘81 for the vietnam memorial. obviously that wasn’t for this election.

That was a bold gesture. a million bucks is a lot to anyone, even a billionaire

that’s great. I take back my aspersions. Is that the right word?

i DONT WANT trump to be a bad man. He is likely the next president and Cruz is still young and will learn from this and second place ain’t so bad for a junior senator.

he got brash and desperate the past few weeks, but he’ll learn.

of course i have my doubts about Trump’s level of conservatism. but he’s a patriot, and that’s good enough for 2016’s race.

growing up in NYC, most of the newspaper articles were of the gossipy kind, about his relationships etc.

to sell papers of course.

glad he is a generous man.

should i bother treating that at 47? :)

I WANT trump to be all the things he says he is. I’ve accepted that Cruz will not win this time and he is young and will learn.

I’m not a defeatist, i’m a realist.

there’s a LOT at stake with 4 SC judges getting REALLY up there in age.

Unlike most of us, The Donald has many pockets and some are very deep.

In a corporation, there can be tax deductible contributions noted on line 19 of the form 1120 When giving to the vets, trump is not giving to the government

My cousin and his wife have been training service dogs for the blind (mostly). As you mentioned, it’s very involved and they spend a lot of time training the dogs, going to training and interacting with the local club, etc. I don’t believe they get paid for it - they are both retired and love dogs and are doing it to help others. It started a few years ago when the dog they had died and they got a service dog that didn’t make the cut. They currently have that dog, plus another dog they’re training and also took on a puppy for training right before Christmas.

I’m like you - I’d get too attached and wouldn’t be able to give them up. I’ve also thought being a foster parent, but I love kids, too and decided I just couldn’t give them up. One of my girlfriends had a couple of foster children, it was close to the time she could adopt them, then the mother supposedly turned herself around and got the kids. As luck would have it, she got a little girl and was able to adopt her - both have had a happy life (not without challenges like there are with almost any child), but it’s great to see the love and connection they have with each other; and the daughter has a much better life that she would have otherwise had.

There are two kinds of people in the world. There are the givers and there are the takers. Donald is a giver, and that is good enough for me.

Unfortunately, good news doesn’t sell papers. Trash, scuttlebutt, rumors, scandals, and voyeurism are the things that do sell papers. Sad state of affairs, I think.

A Patriot is the best qualification we can have in our next president. In order to fight the New World Order, it is what counts. Thanks for seeing the bright side.
