Joe Scarborough abruptly cut off Steve Rattner’s analysis this morning of the immediate effect Sarah Palin’s endorsement of Donald Trump has had on Iowa voters.
Betting markets say Trump is the clear fav to win Iowa (he might have Palin to thank for it). My @Morning_Joe chart: pic.twitter.com/4057fFUvKC
— Steven Rattner (@SteveRattner) January 29, 2016
Scarborough immediately interrupted Rattner’s analysis, and shifted the explanation of Trump’s Iowa breakout toward the questions Trump has been raising about the ‘issue’ of Ted’s citizenship. NBC’s Chuck Todd was all too quick to giddily agree.
Rattner drew another line on his chart to appease Scarborough, but misplaced the time-frame of when Trump first began to question Ted’s eligibility.
Trump has been casting doubts regarding Cruz’s eligibility on a daily basis, going back to at least January 7th, if not further.
The red line shown here is a far more accurate reflection than Rattner’s blue line of when Trump’s birthright attacks began in earnst.
While Trump’s questions regarding Cruz’s eligibility likely had some influence in the first few days, the effect began to wane, going mostly flat in the week leading up to January 19th when Palin offered her endorsement of Donald Trump.
From the 19th on, we can see a sustained spike in Iowa voters affections for Trump, and a sharp decrease in support for Ted Cruz.
Watch ‘Morning Joe’ go into denial:
Or, morning joe having trouble understanding how anyone other than a LIV changes their vote based on a celebrity endorsement.
Palin is the most underrated endorsement on the planet. Her people all win no matter the odds.
Pray America wakes
Speeches given by either side of a Trump/Palin administration would be something to see.
Just like Trump was the most underrated candidate for president - six months ago! I saw Sarah's endorsement coming after I saw her interviewing Trump. It's 100% sincere and uncalculated and pure political gold.
Trump should appear with her as much as possible. It will only increase his popularity. If you read my other posts on this you'll find out why. It has nothing to do with politics.
Had she endorsed someone else, would you personally have changed your support whomever she endorsed?
Trump likes her I am going on record she will be the VP. You heard it hear first.
It didn't work for T.W Shannon in OK. Now we have a RINO in the Senate. But Palin support is still strong. I just wish she'd have supported Cruz again, as she did for the Senate.
I like Trump, and I like Palin. Sarah's the only reason I voted for McCain in 2008. Without her on the ticket, I'd have sat home I hated Juan McCain that much.
Having said that, if it turns out that Palin is Trump's VP choice, that would be political suicide for Trump. To me, that'd be the indicator his candidacy wasn't serious from the get-go. Palin's negatives are far too high for her to have a positive impact on the ticket. The media would have a field day with the circus that's surrounded her family of late, and frankly, there's still far too many poeple in this country who still believe she said "I can see Russia from my back yard!" when that was Tina Fey on Saturday Night Live.
The fact we have a country where so many people are so ignorant of reality just damn's any ticket with Palin on it. My own opinion of course.
Interesting chart...looks like Palin’s endorsement gave Trump the additional bump of support he needed to regain the lead in Iowa. You could also make the case that his Liberty College speech and subsequent endorsement from Jerry Falwell Jr. was a major contributing factor.
I love Sarah Palin...she a great American...
Palin as a VP pick would be a disaster for Trump...
Thanks to McCain not defending her back when he ran in 2008 and post election lost, she is extremely damaged goods because lots of Americans are LIV and believe the lefts unrelenting personal smears, attacks, lies, demonizing, marginalizing, libeling and her family follies...
Trump already has high unfavorable rating, adding Palin to the mix would not be good...
I LOVE Sarah also, but a VP pick would be a disaster for Trum!!! The media was allowed to DESTROY her made her into a bimbo and NO ONE tried to help her or stop it!!! Our side ALWAYS does such a great job protecting our own. /s
If you doubt Our Gal Sarah’s appeal, you are sadly mistaken.
Our Gal Sarah’s power is in her Real-Person appeal; You feel you know her and understand her convictions.
She also has that “Outsider” gravitas, to steal a phrase, as the youngest person and first women Gov of Alaska.
She busted up the entrenched PUBBIE beasts up in the frozen north.
As I have written before; Revolutionaries often don’t survive the revolution.
We need to bust-up the system in DC and take it away from the Ruling Class, and return it to the Country class (Thanks, A. Codevilla).
The Donald is the Hammer we need.
As a VP choice, either go all-in as Outsiders with Our Gal Sarah, or, a mid-west or Texas political power to capture regional voters.
I just have to post on this thread.
I see a number of “I support Sarah, but not as VP candidate” posters have taken positions on the thread.
Well, I would like to go on record:
I supported Palin even before McCain chose her as his VP. I strongly support Palin. I would have even chose Palin over Trump if there were a contest.
And I am STRONGLY for Palin as Vice President.
I can think of nobody in America, better for the job.
Anywhere.
Sarah is great and I too admired her even before she was on the national stage. She has great appeal to the base and here on FR but can’t sell herself to the country in a general election.
We’ve been there and done that with her being marginalized and caricatured as a result. The media establishment has done their job in damaging her reputation in the minds of independents and middle of the road Republicans so I fear she’ll never rise too much higher than she already has.
Cruz or Rubio will be fine choices.
I still maintain McCain/GOP-E chose Sarah because they knew she was on the threshhold of becoming a Conservative icon and leader.
Knowing she would be on a losing ticket (the fix was in early on) would make Sarah forever tainted with a losing record on her resume.
Sarah picked as VP was a hit job by the GOP-E.
I am not sure how it will turn out. It is just an observation. I have just watched them together ans see too many pictures of the two together and no ne else in pictures with him. He is thinking about it anyway. I am on the fence of how I think it will work could be the most awesome thing that ever happened could be a mistake, but I think it will happen, today not sure about months down the road.
Deliverance Boy doesn’t like Sarah because he went to NYC, parked his overalls and pitchfork and took up with the upper west side (who, of course, still distain him). I hope Grey Papaya spits on his hotdog!
It will be a cold day in hell before trump picks her for VP.
Here are some things to think about:
she lost her gig at FOX
she lost her reality show
her books sales have gone to zero
she sold or is selling her luxury house in Phoenix
and last but not least, yesterday it was shown her SaraPAC has dwindled down to 340 grand from its usual low millions.
She is trying to get back into the spotlight and turn it into something.
Would you endorse Sarah for Secretary of Energy? Or Interior? I would!
