Paul, Rubio gang up on Cruz

They were so mean to beat up on our Canadian guest. What do they want to do, start a war with Canada?

Not sure it’s over but having the 2008 Iowa caucus winner Huckabee and the 2012 Iowa caucus winner Santorium at his vets event has got to translate into more than a few votes.

Saw a clip of Cruz telling Megoon that if she didn’t stop with the pit against questions he’d have to leave! Goodness!

...Santorum won [IOWA in 2012]... and he had been running a poor fourth, at best — lower in some polls.

You suggest the Iowa result could be a surprise.   Here are my reasons to believe the polls are accurate:

  • The intensity of this campaign suggests voters have made up their minds.

  • The campaign manager who engineered the last two primary Republican victories in Iowa is working for Trump.

  • News we've heard this week shows the Trump team does indeed have an strong ground game in the State.

  • Trump has captured the endorsement of key evangelical heroes like Palin and Falwell.

  • Thousands upon thousands of Iowans have attended Trump rallies.

  • The Iowa governor supports Trump.

  • In the last 3 weeks, Cruz has taken the same intense heat Trump has faced for months. Last night especially, he took hits from all directions.   So Cruz today is a wounded vet of presidential wars.

  • Trump has fought just as hard as Cruz to win Iowa.   And he's asked Iowans many times for their support.

  • Finally, Trump gave Iowa kids rides in his helicopter. "Yeah kid, I'm batman." :- )

I like Cruz and though I didn't watch the hen house of Fox, do hope to hear that Cruz held his own against the attacks of Rubio, Paul, and others. The results this evening are truly amazing and the making of a new history book. Winning a debate by not even making an appearance :-) Only TRiUMPh

could pull that off!

The most important evangelical leader in Iowa is Bob VanderPlaats, who has endorsed Cruz. Donald Duck was all over Twitter calling VanderPlaats a “bad guy.” He didn’t say something like “I’m disappointed and would like to have had his support”; he insults the guy. That’s not going to help him.

Rallies aren’t everything. If he’s drawing a lot of non-Republicans and/or people who never go to the caucuses, then the large crowds may not mean much.

Cruz is universally conceded to have the best ground game and his ads have now started appearing on TV. He didn’t waste a lot of money early, as Marco and Jeb have.

His campaign manager is good, but one of his precinct captains was quoted in the paper saying that she hasn’t been able to get the needed phone list from the campaign. So Trump’s ground game, while better than it was, still needs work.

Governor Branstad’s support may not mean as much as Governor Branstad thinks it does. Cruz has Steve King on his side. (And if anti-Establishment is your brand, having the Governor for Life on your side may do as much harm as good.)

The latest polls show that 39 percent still either haven’t made up their minds or might switch before Monday night (or ON Monday night, as often happens.)

Several people have told the media that they were Trump supporters, but no longer are after the kerfuffle about the debate. I don’t know how many, but there are some.

So whatever reasons you may have to believe that the polls are correct and show a Trump win, there are very good reasons to believe otherwise. We’ll all find out Monday night.
