U.S. Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.) has endorsed Texas Sen. Ted Cruz for president, less than a week before the Iowa caucuses.
In a release from the Cruz campaign announcing the endorsement, Meadows says Cruz is consistent, conservative and puts the interests of the country first.
"We are approaching a historic election that has the potential to fundamentally change our nation as we know it. Ted Cruz is the principled, conservative leader we need in the White House," Meadows said in a news release. "On issue after issue, Cruz has told the truth and done what he said he was going to do.
"Folks across this great nation are sick and tired of the Washington way, and demand real change. Ted Cruz is the best-positioned leader to restore power to the people and uphold the Constitution at this historic moment in time."
Meadows said in the release that he has worked closely with Cruz numerous times, from pro-Israel initiatives to fighting for school choice, and that he knows Cruz always puts the interest of the country first.
Meadows is part of a new group of consistent, principled conservatives in the House pushing for limited government, fiscal responsibility, and restoring the rule of law and respect for the Constitution, the release says.
"You'd be hard-pressed to find a more principled conservative in the House than Mark Meadows. He has been a champion for limited government and has the battle scars to prove it," Cruz said in the release. "As a small-businessman, he is acutely aware of the challenges men and women face in the Obama economy and is going to be a tremendous voice for us on the campaign trail. I am thrilled to have Mark's support and am eager to have his help in the Tar Heel State."
Who?
First the governor of a territory with 0 electoral votes. Now some congressmen no one has ever heard of?
It seems like I’ve heard this before about Meadows endorsement. Maybe the first couple of times he endorsed him it didn’t stick.
Who is meadows? Never heard of him. Is he on a committee?
Ground game and momentum!
And 30% still report they could change their minds.
Cruz has good talking points but is part of the establishment that has done nothing for us, the people. The Republicans have the House and Senate and what do we have. Nothing.
Trump for President.
NC Rep - made motion to vacate to remove Boehner.
Not surprised that you don’t know who he is. You’re obviously on top of the efforts of real conservatives in Congress. /s/
Mr. Meadows is a key member of the House Freedom Caucus - the group Ted Cruz has been working with to coordinate legislation that he couldn’t bring to a vote in the Senate. He’s also the guy who pushed for the ouster of John Boehner, former Speaker of the House and the guy who called Ted Cruz a “jackass”.
Catching fire? Is that what they call losing nowadays?
Well, he’s clearly an Establishment RINO.
Wendle signed up in August to beat the drums for Trump and drop an occasional F bomb.
A good endorsement, at least for conservatives who pay attention to politics, although it might not be nearly as flashy as whichever washed up celebrity has endorsed Trump most recently.
Meadows risked a lot to take down Boehner, a man Trump would be praising to high Heaven as someone who he can make deals with right now if he hadn’t been taken down.
I do find it laughable, the Trump supporters who claim Cruz is part of the establishment. It flies directly in the face of logic as well as Trump’s own beliefs. Remember, Cruz is a nasty person who no one likes and who cannot get along with anyone according to Trump. How does that square with being part of the establishment? Meanwhile Trump throws money at the establishment of both parties, constantly praises many who’ve done as much or more damage to this nation as Obama, and then goes on and on about how he’ll make great deals with these people.
Only one candidate cozy’s up to the establishment, and it sure as hell isn’t Cruz.
WENDLE is the one who claimed that Trump was busing in thousands from out of state to vote in Iowa.
My representative. He is doing in the House what he promised to do. One of Boehner’s buddies tried to recruit someone to run against Meadows.
good for her
Meadows came to Congress about the same time as Cruz. He’s a junior Congressman but he’s damn good. He cuts deals with no one. He’s more conservative than Cruz.
Meadows was the first member to move against the once popular Boehner of OH.
