ADN poll: Alaskans like Trump, Sanders for president
Alaska Dispatch News | 1/24/16 | Erica Martinson

An Alaska Dispatch News poll found registered voters in the state have their eyes on two candidates that would have been considered unlikely front-runners just a year ago: real estate billionaire and reality TV star Donald Trump and Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont, the self-proclaimed democratic socialist.

I just can’t help but continue to laugh about the (I) leading the Democrat nomination. Some days I just want to buy tickets to sit in the audience watching Hillary’s reactions to each poll.

I can see Trump favored by Alaskans but Sanders? Really? There are more conservatives in Alaska than liberals and socialists, where is the Sanders support coming from? Perhaps the Native American community?

Alaska is full of transplanted long gray pony-tailed hippies and lesbians.

The death knell question for Sanders is: How are you going to PAY for all this stuff? Would be interesting to see these two brash and outspoken candidates duke it out.

Kind of like Oregon but colder. Although Oregon has gotten more conservative in recent years.

Side question: A (conservative, pro-Palin) friend of mine recently visited Alaska on business. And since he's into politics, he started conversations with many of the locals.

He was unpleasantly surprised by the large amount of anti-Palin comments he got. Are the times a’changing up there?

I must respectfully disagree. Sanders will make the numbers work. He'll just slap huge tax increases on the wealthy (wealthy, as defined by him), and huge tax increases on the corporations.

Now consider the average middle-of-the road voter. Deep down, he knows that tax increases are bad for the country. But those tax increases won't touch him directly, and immediately. But junior will now get to go to college for free!

But Trump will still beat Sanders, if it comes down to those two men. Trump has more Joe Six-Pack appeal. He'll defeat Sanders on the immigration issue alone. JMHO.

The day after Palin endorsed Trump, I read that Cruz was leading in Alaska. It sounds like Trump is now the frontrunner everywhere.

He can just say: “the wealthy will pay, not the middle class,” and the middle class will believe him!

Seems to me that not to long ago Cruz was ahead in Alaska. Good news for Trump.

It’s a hugely disappointing reality but Alaska is a welfare state that loves to TALK conservative. The public Union/native nexus calls the shots here. The current fiscal crisis is about to wake some of the masses up but the afore mentioned coalition will likely prevail. Anyone coming up here for freebies will be advised to rethink their plan. Income tax, sales tax, increase in already high property taxes and state confiscation of the permafund dividend are on the “unity” ticket drawing board.
