Cruz’s plan to beat Clinton: Tell the truth
The Hill ^ | January 23, 2016 | Bradford Richardson

Posted on 01/23/2016 12:51:49 PM PST by Isara

Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz says he hates the conventional wisdom that the only way for a conservative to win a general election is to run as a "Democrat-lite."

"How do we win?" Cruz asked voters at an Exeter, N.H., rally earlier this week, according to the Associated Press.

"Washington consultants always say 'the way you win is you run to the middle.' You run to the mushy middle, you blur the distinctions," he added. "Every time we do that, we lose."

The Texas senator said he prefers his approach, which he characterized as "telling the truth with a smile."

"That's how we win - with a clear contrast," he said.

Cruz pointed to the failed candidacies of Bob Dole, Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Mitt Romney, who were all perceived to be moderates in the party, to support his position.

"What they did didn't work," he said. "We've got to do something different."

Truth with limitations....because that wouldn’t be fair to Bill.

This race is NOT over yet by a long shot. Iowa radio host Steve Deace tweeted a couple days ago that Cruz is going to win Iowa.

I heard today that Iowa caucuses might have a rule that if a candidate gets under 15% in a caucus, those voters have to switch to another candidate. That will only help Cruz. It would turn the race into a 2-man race by default, and polls show in a pure head-to-head vote between Cruz and Trump, Cruz wins.

Do Iowans really want to vote for a guy who bragged in his 2007 book about having sex with married women? If the facts are allowed to get out there about Trump and not suppressed by his fanatic, cult-like followers, Trump will lose this primary.

re>If the facts are allowed to get out there about Trump and not suppressed by his fanatic, cult-like followers

Cruz just keeps burning bridges and his supports are not fanatic or cult like. Why do Cruz supporters have to make these lies up?

Cruz needs Iowa badly. He spent a huge amount of time and money there knowing he has to get out of the gate. He Blew it BIG TIME. Beck will bring him down and small farmers are barely getting by and Cruz told them he will help in their destruction This in the corn belt.

Cruz - Carly looks like the probable ticket as of now.

I’m not a Carly fan in any way either.

Interestingly I’ve never heard Cruz’s position on:

States Rights?
Eminent Domain?
BLM overreach?

etc...

Says he’s a conservative, but what is his position?

The Iowa caucus presidential preference vote is a secret ballot, cast almost at the start of the meeting, before any real caucus business takes place. There are no do-overs. Attendees can vote for anyone the choose, without restriction.

Cruz is solid in Iowa, and being an Ethanol sycophant is not a winning strategy.

GMO corn is destroying Iowa’s soil relentlessly.

Eventually they will all be out of business with dead soil.

Good questions. I worry about a man who has to tell you he is going to tell the truth. Makes me wonder about him.

I totally agree. But some things are best left unsaid. I think Trump was wrong on this issue. Cruz just seems to burn every bridge he crosses.

Can you visualize Cruz, with a smile in his face, saying to Hillary "you're a f****** b****!
