So I must confess that it is a bit much to see the avalanche of conservative mockery and heckling directed at her for her endorsement of Donald Trump. I am not saying she is beyond criticism or that one should support Trump because of her endorsement (I haven not made up my own mind yet, and I swing almost daily between Cruz and Rubio), but perhaps we should consider that the combination of her personal relationship with Trump, her personal experience suffering from years of the most vicious and personal attacks directed at any current or former politician in the United States, and her deep convictions regarding policy priorities for the next president have led her to this decision. In other words, she is not simply hunting for headlines â she is doing what she thinks is best for the country she loves.

If you’re a conservative and not aligned with the gopE, you are the enemy.
Last time I checked Sarah Palin doesn’t need anyone’s permission to endorse anyone.
He swings almost daily between Cruz and Rubio. That sounds nuts.
Good point, but no clicks for National Review.
Sorry, I assume it had to be excerpted.
Rubio is for scamnesty.
Cruz isn’t a NBC.
These are principled conservatives ?
Not really, they’re both fairly similar.
You’re missing the point. The article isn’t about David French(who I admire), it’s about Sarah Palin’s endorsement of Trump.
btw, they are both Senators and should be content to remain there.
I can only imagine what will happen to her if she crosses Trump and he gives her the old Meghan Kelley treatment.
No Problem! It’s like “no Oreos!” They are there, but you don’t have to buy them.
Sarah Palin is a patriot first, loves her family, God, and country, believes in traditional values, hard work, free enterprise, smaller government, strong national defense, and liberty.
So does Donald Trump.
So no wonder the two hit if off well, and make a great team.
If that’s “not conservative enough” for some on this site, then that’s THEIR problem not hers.
Makes a lot of sense. Cruz and Rubio are more or less on the same conservative page on every subject, except immigration. Here's an insightful comment on the GOP's internal immigration divide:
The reason Democrats are able to block efforts to restrict illegal immigration is that the GOP is fundamentally at war with itself over the issue.
One camp consists of traditional free-market pro-business conservatives who favor immigration because it drives down wages and dilutes the power of labor unions that immigrants are unlikely to join. Another plus is that many immigrants leave the country when the job market is depressed, rather than sticking around and relying on budget-sucking social welfare.
However, the other camp consists of lower-income and often less-educated voters, many of whom have been driven towards the GOP by a variety of culture-war issues. These voters may make noise about supporting smaller government, but when push comes to shove, they accept big-government solutions to issues that directly affect their pocketbooks—such as wage competition from immigrants.
The GOP pro-business establishment has assumed that by giving lukewarm support to the unworkable sham non-solution of "border security", they can maintain the favorable status quo, while blaming the lack of progress on Obama. Their problem is that this strategy has a limited lifespan, as the other more populist GOP camp is increasingly realizing what they're up to, and the threat of drowning under a shifting demographic tide looms larger and larger.
Trump was liberal on every subject including immigration. He now says he's for a restrictive immigration policy. You can choose to believe him, or you can choose to believe what he said in the past. I choose to believe his past rather than his hastily adopted present, much as I choose to believe Tom Cruise is an actor rather than a real-life action hero.
Only to the benumbed Cruz supporters.
Trump and Palin have been good friends for YEARS ! When every was giving her a rough time of it, he was there for her and still is.
Sarah needs to watch her back.
How likely do you think Sarah Palin is to give Trump the Meghan Kelley treatment? It was MK who acted like a total $^&@% in that first debate, and Trump dealt with her accordingly. NO sympathy whatsoever for Mz. Kelley.
Sarah needs to watch her back, because if she dares to step out in front of his ego she will get Trumped.
You don't have to believe a word of what I am saying. Just remember that I said it.
