About half of Florida Republican voters want Donald Trump for president, according to a new poll that shows him with such a commanding lead that he has more than double the GOP support for home-state politicians Jeb Bush and Marco Rubio combined.

The new Florida Atlantic University survey, conducted between Friday and Monday, has Trump pulling about 48 percent support - up about 12 percentage points since FAU last polled the race in November.

"At this point, Donald Trump is simply crushing the opposition in the Florida Republican primary," Kevin Wagner, associate professor of political science at FAU, said in a written statement. "Not only has he increased his lead, Mr. Trump's favorability ratings among Republicans are now ahead of his competitors by a substantial margin."

...

In a general election matchup, Trump leads Democrat Hillary Clinton by 3 percentage points, 47 to 44 percent

...

Rubio, who led Clinton by 7 points in November, is now tied with her. Clinton's biggest improvement was against Cruz, whom she leads by 5 points after trailing him by 3 in the November survey.

Cruz is the least-liked of any of the candidates among independent voters, according to the poll.

Cruz tanking in this poll, and the lies about Trump fading and not beating Hillary are put to rest.

Just an awful week for Cruz, as evidenced further by the caterwauling and outright lying by his fans here.

Cruz had his second place moment just like so many, and no different than the others he got schlonged by Trump.

Republicans keep putting for “moderate” RINOs like Dole, McCain, Romney, and then go down in flaming defeat because disgusted conservatives sit out the election.

Now they are set to do it all over again. Trump is another big-government “moderate” who will drive disenfranchised conservatives out once again. The stupidity of these repeat performances in breathtaking.

That should read “putting forth”... 19 years of Free Republic, and the only thing that has changed is that quotes have gone screwy. Can we ever get an Edit function here??

I’ve found this works for me (if I don’t forget), doing a “Preview” and look at the preview pane closely and fix any weirdness. Then preview again to make sure it was fixed. Finally post and it comes through without the funny characters.

Eh, the auto-closing of HTML tags was a huge improvement. But its unchangingness is part of its charm.

Too often Conservatives allow polls to decide which candidate to pick. Oh no, X conservative can’t win against democrat so throw x under the bus

All the previous guys you listed are Establishment.

The Establishment HATES Trump. They hate his idea on building a wall. They hate his ideas on Trade. Establishment rats like Karl Rove have been scheming behind the scene in order to have the delegates vote for someone else.

Trump is an outsider and WILL be elected. The Democrats are hurting. Whoever wins the Republican Primary will be the next President. And it’s looking very strong to be Trump. Keep in mind his numbers are higher than Regan’s at this time.

With this latest poll maybe they’ll believe me. What I am impressed by is that a tremendous cross section of people like him.
