Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad: Cruz must be defeated

Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad would like to see Ted Cruz defeated, he said on Tuesday.

The Iowa governor, whose powerful network of supporters is a prized political commodity, was speaking to reporters at the Iowa Renewable Fuels Summit. Branstad's son Eric is leading efforts to portray the Texas senator as hostile to ethanol, a narrative Cruz has been trying to stifle in recent weeks.

Asked if he'd like the Texas senator to lose, Governor Branstad said, "Yes."

"I think it would be very damaging to our state," he continued, according to Iowa's Channel 13 news. "I believe it would be a big mistake for Iowa to support him."

I think the party got the news that the people aren’t fooled by the qualification claim (thousands of phone calls have that effect), and this is their way of making it go away, fast, without being addressed in the open.

Not surprising really, considering the revenue the state bring in via ethanol.

The ethanol lobby is powerful. It likes its corporate welfare.

I’m a Cruzer.

But I’ve no problem with what Branstad is doing. Hey. He’s got one single focus to prop up ethanol in Iowa.

Cruz knows what is best for the country is not maybe best for Iowa.

So what?

All on Trump’s big day too...
Almost like... it was all planned maybe?

Remember Trump supports ethanol subsidies, like any good liberal does.

Here's what I've seen. (and I'm following all of this pretty closely). Cruz said he was against ethanol. Everyone praised how gutsy that is, in Iowa. Then Cruz "clarified": he's against ethanol, but getting rid of it would be a phase-out, in the future.

Nobody is happy about it. Pro-ethanol folks don't want it phased out. Anti-ethanol people know that "in the future" never happens in politics.

Is this another case of Cruz outsmarting Cruz?

Wow, All of the Establishment hates Ted Cruz.....what an endorsement.

And the Lord said: "What, then, shall we say unto these things? if God is for us, who is against us?""" Romans 8:31...........

GO CRUZ, keep making them mad a hell.

Someone once told me that the CEO of Archer Daniels Midland is more powerful than the president of the United States.

Sounds like more proof that Ted is the true conservative in the race! And that Brandstet and Trump are the crony politicians.

Gov of Iowa another worthless lying poc, yesterday he said he believed Cruz eligibility was in question, but it turns out he just does not like him.

Exactly. One of Branstad's biggest financial backers, Bruce Rastetter, has made a fortune in ethanol. Branstad does what they tell him.
