How I Know Ted Cruz Has Major Momentum
The Resurgent ^ | January 18, 2016 | Erick Erickson

Posted on 01/18/2016 6:39:23 AM PST by Isara

A funny thing happened on the way to Iowa. Suddenly something started happening to Ted Cruz that used to only happen to Donald Trump.

A few months ago, if you put up a post on an internet website that said, “Donald Trump Doing Nothing,” the post would still get tens of thousands of hits.

That’s less and less the case these days.

Now, instead, it is Ted Cruz’s turn.

On Saturday, the second Saturday of The Resurgent’s existence, we topped 100,000 unique page views. Why? Facebook. Why? Posts about Ted Cruz.

This piece along got over 40,000 unique hits on Saturday. Over 50% of those hits came through Facebook.

That is a pretty good indicator in who has a lot of momentum. For a short time, Scott Walker had this effect. Ben Carson too had this effect. And for a very long time, Donald Trump was essentially free traffic for any right-of-center political website.

Now it is Ted Cruz. Mention Cruz and he generates a lot of traffic. This has actually only been the case since around Christmas. Before that, Cruz came no where close to Trump. But steadily and consistently he has been growing in traffic.

That tells me that Cruz’s following has consolidated, gotten stronger, and his base of support has gotten highly energized. It’s a good sign that this is happening two weeks before Iowa.

Ah, so traffic at ERICKSON’S site is “evidence” of the Cruz “surge.” Very clever. So he drives Cruzers to his site as a self-fulfilling prophecy!!

( This has actually only been the case since around Christmas. Before that, Cruz came no where close to Trump. )

Because Trump did all the heavy lifting and dirty work of taking out the likes of Bush and Carson. Now Cruz just wants to slither in like a snake with little to know effort after riding Trump’s coattails.

He's on top in Iowa

Except he's not. The RCP average was just updated: Trump's on top in Iowa again.

Oops.

So Erick, why have you dropped your “good friend Jeb?”

You don’t like it out in the cold where you’re now a quisling establishment traitor?

Go eat a cheeseburger and some onion rings you putz.

You know how we know Ted is in big trouble, Trump hating blog Redstate, has to put out a story based on some nonsense measurement. I guess the polls aren’t a good measure anymore. And how does RedState know it wasn’t Trump supporters going to read the articles for a good laugh? I know I do!

It must be “Surging Ted:’s forth place in New Hampshire or his 25 point gap in most national polls. Oh wait maybe it’s that he only lost 2 points after the last debate while Trump gained 3 or that Trump gained 3 and Cruz lost 3 in the lasted One America News Iowa poll. Or maybe the Iowa straw poll showing Cruz in fifth place with 8 points and Trump fist with 34.

Erickson went from Jeb Bush shill to Ted Cruz shill. That’s an odd switch...

I’m just really curious how Rush handles Trump’s Twitter meltdown on Saturday. Will he ignore it and keep going on and on about the fits Trump is causing the media? Will he mention it in passing as a segue into some other aspect of the Trump phenomenon. He really can’t maintain any credibility if he tries to stay neutral.

It is apparent that we are being given a clear choice: a guy that talks about the Constitution all the time (a Constitutionalist)and an authoritarian that says His way is the only way and let ‘me’ make America Great. That is two, clear choices. You don’t hear Trump talking about the Constitution much...Just sayin’ - Don’t know who I will vote for yet.

That's a good point. From June through December, Trump took all the incoming for his positions on immigration, Iran, Muslims, etc. He also singlehandedly took Jebbie Bush and the rest of the GOPe out of contention. I do not think Cruz would have survived what Trump went through.

Now it's between him and Cruz. If not for Trump, Cruz would not even be a factor today. We'd be steeling ourselves for either a Jebbie Bush or Marco Rubio coronation.

I will vote for either Trump or Cruz in the general but I will know that it is because of Trump that Cruz is even in contention for the nomination today.

You are attaching Cruz by saying Cruz outsmarted Trunp and is a more effective leader.

I thought Trunps while schtick was he was super smart.

“I’m just really curious how Rush handles Trump’s Twitter meltdown on Saturday.”

Did I miss something? Trump sends out a few twitters, takes a few seconds per, and that is a “meltdown”?

Eriickson said he was quitting RedState to do radio (which is nuts considering his voice is grating). Now, he shows up on this new site?

Gaffer and All,

Re: Erick Erickson (formerly of RedState.com)

I and millions were enraged when RedState refused to allow Donald Trump to speak at a major campaign event last year.

Erick Erickson was the event MC and he received 100,000 tons of high-explosive hits from America's conservatives.

I personally wrote him off, just as I did Ann Coulter when she did the love dance with Mitt Romney in 2012.

A funny thing happened, though.

Erick Erickson didn't guest host the Limbaugh show for months afterward, returned only at the extreme end of December 2015.

He commented that he was starting this "Resurgence" thing ...

and that Rush has personally counseled him to be "free", master of his own ship, and NOT be chained to a controlling organization.

Was Rush advising Erick to dump RedState to claim his own genuine political independence ?

Was RedState, and not Erick, responsible for not inviting Donald Trump ?

We don't know, but I suspect that it may be true.

How many times have we (as employees) been forced to see our "master" employer do something stupid, or worse, obscene ?

Perhaps Erick Erickson is trying to regain his political independence.

Like in "Hunt for Red October", let's "Give the Man a Chance" ...

at least for a few months.

Wouldn't you want that consideration ?
