Late-night talk show host Bill Maher on Friday said the idea that Syrian refugees can assimilate into Western countries and culture is a "fantasy."
Citing polls that indicate many Muslims are in favor of Sharia law, the "Real Time" host said, "The idea that when Syrian refugees come to European countries or America that they are going to fit in is a fantasy," Mediaite reported.
He argued that "insisting that people around the world who are not like us, are going to be like us" is a mistake in thinking, and he said people are starting to realize that now.

Insanity is only compatible with insanity. And even then there is a 50/50 chance that would come to blows. Madness to think otherwise from a disease that labels itself as a religion.

They can fit in under the old model of assimilation but not the new model. Go back two or three generations and think about all the Arab Americans who contributed to American life. They weren’t radicals. But over the past 30 or 40 years, America has stopped trying to assimilate because its “racist.” No one is forced to learn American culture and English and there is no social pressure to Americanize.

Exactly.
The point isn't that Syrian refugees can't assimilate. Some surely can. The point is that we can't reasonably assume that all of them will assimilate, nor can we predict which ones will assimilate and which ones won't. And that poses a danger.
But I still think accepting Christian Syrians make sense. Their status as "actual" Christians surely can be verified through information from Church leaders, confirmed practicing members of congregations, etc. If someone claims to be a Christian from a certain town, but the local priest doesn't know them, then forget it.
When I have interaction with a lib on this topic lately and I state bluntly and plainly that this isn’t a clash of civilizations, but a fight to the death between the civilized world and savages I see something in their eyes that they know the truth. I tell them to study the history of Islam on their own and they will know this is just another iteration of what has been going on for 1400 years and they look down and nod just a bit. They know.
Who is even saying that Muslims will fit in with Western countries? Obama maintains we are to change to fit them. They are being sent in because they DON’T fit. Their entry is designed to weaken the nations, not strengthen them. And, you are racist if you don’t welcome it. If destroying your country is the price you have to pay to prove you are not racist, then that is a good bargain. As George W Bush said said during the funeral for Gerald Ford, racism is the worst possible thing. I well remember that, because it struck me as most profound. It takes rare wisdom to be able to perceive that, I tell you.
He’s always been on the right side of this issue.
