Nice people are liked but rarely respected.

It makes sense when you consider that in cavemen days it was more important to figure out if your fellow man was going to kill you and steal all your possessions than if he was competent enough to build a good fire. Not just in caveman days; the same rule applies in most big cities.

Well, if people are under 25 (still some voters there) I would suspect that LOOKS are the first impression and each gender has different "specs" that they look for.

Funny, the first thing most notice is the sex of the other person and their attractiveness. If positive it biases the rest.
