New figures from the state statistics office show inflation in Ukraine reached a 20-year high of 43.3% in 2015.
That represents an increase of nearly 20% on 2014's figure of 24.9%.
Items which saw the biggest jumps include gas, which rose in price nearly four times, hot water and heating, whose prices increased by nearly 80% and vegetables, which were almost 70% more expensive in 2015 than they were in 2014. In annual terms, no goods saw price falls between the two years.

This particularly hurts pensioners who are reduced to subsistence levels, surviving on potatoes and some cabbage for soup. The Poroshenko government has been a huge failure.
A very predictable one as well...when you consider the 30% discount on gas the prior government had negotiated.
Western meddling at its finest...
Ukraine is one of the most corrupt countries in the world. Even Joe Biden said so.
I would’t call this “western” meddling. Putin wants the Ukrainian state to fail. What will happen is that east of the Dnieper will go to Russia along with perhaps Odessa, while the west-central part will become a violently anti-Russian, anti-Polish state. so, a buffer state
True enough. 70 plus years of Russian style socialism did nobody any good. Exchange rate today for the Hrivna is 24 to the dollar. Very sad for Ukraine.
Then you really haven't been paying attention.
The US State Dept. chose Ukraine's current Prime Minister, Joe Biden has the current Ukraine President on speed dial, Ukraine's finance minister is a former US State Dept. staffer, the IMF changed its lending rules to prop up this failing government.
The West owns this debacle.
Just Google John McCain Ukraine.
Then Google Soros Ukraine just for kicks.
Since Februrary 2015, the exchange rate to dollars is the same. From Jan to Feb there was a 100+% increase, which then settled at the rate mentioned in the article.
Price increases have been tough on most people. Many moderate to high end restaurants have closed in Kiev. However, McDonalds are still packed with young people even with prices nearly doubled from a year ago.
Thx Cronos.
