Ammon Bundy said Friday that he was not yet ready to accept Harney County Sheriff Dave Ward's offer of safe passage out of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge.
Bundy said he and those with him at the refuge would 'leave as free men' at a later time.
Bundy wanted to continue talking to Sheriff Ward on Friday, but Ward refused to communicate because Bundy and the group of people with him weren't ready to leave.
The Harney County Committee of Safety formed last week to address the case of the Hammond's and other land owners wronged by the federal government met Friday.
Three of the six leaders of the group have signed a letter discussed at the meeting, calling on the militia group to leave the refuge. But three other leaders have refused to sign the letter.
"Oregon Live" reports more than 100 attended, all supporting the ideas advocated by Ammon Bundy in media interviews calling for local control of land replacing federal control.
The top leader of the group pushing for the militia withdrawal wears another hat. Tim Smith is also the vice-chairman of the Republican Party in Harney County.
I suspect the GOP wants to defuse this situation to prevent any fallout in this very important presidential election year.
Meanwhile, a startling new development late Friday was the arrival of an advance party from Idaho 3%. The Idaho group says it intends to protect the community from any crazy people who may show up and protect the group at the wildlife refuge from any Waco-style assault by authorities.
Some of the Idaho 3% were seen by the media meeting with Ammon Bundy and his companions at the wildlife refuge.
The bulk of the group will reportedly arrive later today.
In the county seat of Burns, OR concrete barriers were placed at the county courthouse with law enforcement telling Oregon Public Broadcasting they were preparing for a protest. So far no protest has occurred.
OPB also reports that the FBI is investigating the alleged use of computers at the wildlife refuge by the people who are there.
bump
What say you about 3% showing up?
Thanks for the update.
I think the crazy people just did.
“The Idaho group says it intends to protect the community from any crazy people who may show up and(to?) protect the group at the wildlife refuge from any Waco-style assault by authorities.”
My parentheses, is this what the statement means? This statement makes Idaho group’s intentions absolutely unclear to me.
It's against the law to use computers now ?
It's against the law to use computers now ?
oops moment.
A friend said the Idaho 3% were there, I hadn’t seen any confirmation until this.
They should leave. At this point and time their continued presence there is counterproductive to our cause.
I have mixed thoughts. I think it's great they are demonstrating civil disobedience against a behemoth, oppressive gubbamint. I also am skeered for their lives.
When they come, it will be with overwhelming force. I would hate to see a loss of life.
Last point....This is a symptom of corrupt government and citizens reaction to it. Folks are FED UP. They simply want to be left alone to live their lives without federal/state/local bureaucrats constantly eff’n with folks.
Along with selective prosecution, judge shopping and overcharging the Feds can make your computer use very painful.
I will concede Ammon did a lot better by way of PR, later, than he did the first day.
I didn’t know, or I forgot, what the 3% was. We need more groups like that, or more people to get involved with this group.
what i really think.
It is if they don’t belong to you and you haven’t been given permission to use them. Of course, if that was the case, they should have been password protected.
With all the security I have they still get by some of the links I’ve opened. My main geek schools me on whats out there.
You don’t know JS about III%’ers do you?
If you did, you wouldn’t have made such an a$$ of yourself with that statement.
