FOX Poll: Ted Cruz Still On Top in Iowa Over Donald Trump
Fox News ^ | 1/9/16 | Jeff Halpern

Posted on 01/08/2016 4:11:12 PM PST by VinL

Donald Trump is still the top pick for Republicans nationwide, but in Iowa, the billionaire is playing catch up.

More than a third of Republicans nationwide tell a FOX News survey they support Donald Trump's bid for the nomination, but that 35% figure is actually down from last month. Senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio follow at 20 and 13%.

Trump dominates the field in New Hampshire as well, leading with 33%. Rubio is second, but well behind at 15%.

But in Iowa, it's Cruz still in control. The Texas Senator led Trump in last month's poll and has increased his lead 27-23, and is the top choice among self described very conservative caucus goers and white Evangelicals.

Maybe...but what’s up with this one? Cruz in fourth place in NH behind Jeb and Kasich?

It's insults like that that lead to ugly posts between Trump & Cruz supporters.

You should learn from Cruz and take the high road but instead you like to jump in the gutter and perpetuate the in-fighting here on Free Republic.

Not very Christian of you.

It’s a 4% margin of error, so it’s a statistical tie, but I’d rather be up than down.

That said, the poll is among the old landline dominant variety with about 2/3 to 1/3 balance between landline and cellphone.

Those are the methods that have been proven wrong around the globe recently. Non-response rate, variability of respondent, and respondent pool have made the landline a negative rather than a plus.

So, it’s wise to view the MOE as closer to the truth.

Hey. Trump. Cruz. Either one is fine with me!

Trump/Cruz 2016 or Cruz/Trump 2016

If that poll holds up Cruz will have about 2 more delegates than Trump for a week. Enjoy it while it lasts.

Seems to me Carson was leading Trump in Iowa not long ago, now where is he?

Maybe so but after Iowa Cruz will have to get a tent and take his Elmer Gantry shtick on the road.

Rip- I answer you among the Trump supporters because you’re reasonable.

First, before I forget, you can check this out at Real Politics. But, my observation has been that the network polls virtually always have Trump with a higher %, than the non-networks (phone). Sounds counter-intuitive, but it’s true. That is the case nationally, and in the states. I’m not saying Trump isn’t leading; he is. Nor do I think the networks want him to be President, they don’t. ...I just think he means revenue for them.

Anyway, to Cruz in NH—there’s 2 new polls on RCP- PPP and Fox (they don’t list NH1). It look’s like Cruz is at 12%- which would be a base.

He needs to win big in Iowa— and that would give him serious cred if he’s beaten Trump— and it should give him a good shot to be very competitive in NH-—

By that logic, Anita Hill Trump shouldn’t take much solace in his current lead, eh?

27-23 with moe of +/- 4 is a tie. Or is this poll one of those new math things?

Iowa is an interesting state.

Remember how those delegates went to Ron Paul? Wonder how that all works out at the convention? Gotta grab my popcorn on that one.

I have a feeling that Trump and Cruz will have to stand together come Cleveland...their views align the most and so far they have few friends and will needs support for a national election.

What was the previous Fox IA poll? Trump was 21 in DMR, so he’s come up from that one.

Found it. Previous Fox poll Cruz was up 2, so he has slightly increased his lead in Fox-—but interestingly he’s about to see his overall lead on RCP fall because the big 10 point DMR poll will soon fall off. PPP should be out any day. I’ll be interested in that one.

The Texas Senator led Trump in last month's poll and has increased his lead 27-23

4 percentage points is pretty much within the MOE. I'm unimpressed...
