The iconic department store announced plans on Wednesday to lay off about 4,350 employees across the country.
...
All told, Macy's hopes to save about $400 million to help offset its "disappointing" 2015 results.

They owned a chain in Atlanta/Athens for years (acquired in the 1920s), locally managed, and it did well. Then they decided to slap the yankee label on it (late 1980s) and call the shots from New York. They fairly quickly ran it into the ground. They bought a local Atlanta chain, and after the original Macy’s shut down (a couple were re-branded as Bloomingdales, which didn’t work very well, either) (early 2000s), they slapped their signs on the formerly well respected newly acquired stores. Looks like they’re slowly shutting those down, as well.
Obama has decimated the middle class. His policies have brought this on.
I still see so many empty abandoned stores and half empty malls.
How many were temporary holiday hires?
I just checked out the malls where the Macy’s in MA are closing.
Definitely downscale. It appears Sears is the other anchor at both.
Payless Shoes,also there.
Junk.

Wow....these folks are sure lucky the unemployment rate is down to 5%.... /s
Notice that the PC Macy’s is abandoning the north and mideastern America and going south where real working people live. Think they might advertise for the people that live around their stores not the gat crowd. Say how’s that gay advertising going JC Penney’s?
Abercrombie and Hollister are both NO-Go zones for my family.
Neither of them sell things I want my kids to be seen in.
Mostly we buy Land’s End because of the quality and durability of their stuff. Boys are tough on clothes and their stuff hold up well.
We do the occasional Eddie Bauer, or LL Bean and their clothes are OK, but still not the same quality of LE and a slightly more expensive. The North Face is too...labeled. I resent walking around looking like a billboard.
Oh you are just my kind of person. That is exactly me. Well, I haven’t bought Land’s End in awhile. I do buy lots of Eddie Bauer and LLBean. I love North Face even over priced. I wait and buy it on sale. I like Merrell and UGG. I used to love Ralph Lauren but got frustrated with their service. Mostly they have great service. One time I kept ordering during a sale and my order would go through only to have them cancel on me a few days later. I took it and took and finally got fed up. They have changed for the worse lately as far as style and quality go. Overall I am very brand loyal.
I’ll have to check out Land’s End again.
IMHO,
After Sears bought Land’s End, the quality and styling deteriorated. I switched to LL Bean and could not be happier.
I have LL Bean and Brooks Brothers shirts that are 25 years old and going strong.
Enfield has four anchor stores, two were Macy’s One Men/home the other the Regular Macy’s.
Is it really that big...or did somebody add an extra "1" to the beginning? :)
Assuming 1/2 the “associates” are working at any given time, that’s approx. one associate per 13,624 sq. ft. of store.
I suppose that stat might fit a self-service lumberyard...
Thanks !

A lot of people don’t realize that Sears is the same as K-Mart.
They take K-Mart merchandise, put a Sears label on it, and try to sell it for more money. Sears went out of business here and closed down. At the end it was pathetic, a combination of a flea market and a dollar store.
