Trump Dominates News 5 Alabama Republican Poll (Trump 40% Cruz 21%)

Donald Trump maintains a strong lead among Alabama Republican voters, but Ted Cruz has tripled his support in the state since August. Those are highlights of the latest News-5/Strategy Poll.

Forty percent of those who say they will vote in the Republican Primary say they will vote for Trump - up nine-percent since August.

"In a field of a dozen candidates, to get over fifty percent, statistics would say is impossibility," said pollster and political strategist Jon Gray. "But Donald Trump is knocking on that door right now."

Ted Cruz is second with 21-percent. He polled just seven percent in August.

Jeb Bush has 10-percent, Marco Rubio nine-percent, and Ben Carson eight-percent.

All candidates but Trump and Cruz lost support in Alabama since August. Gray says there is a clear move to the right among Alabama voters.

"61-percent are voting for either Donald Trump or Ted Cruz," he said. "I would argue to you that that is the most conservative side of the Republican ticket right now. So the voters are going toward what I'd call the ultra conservative voters."

75-percent of Alabamians indicate they will vote in the Republican primary. Gray says that suggest some Democrat will be cross-over voters.

"Even Democrats who are 'yellow dog' Democrats may be drawn in by the activities taking place among the Republican candidates," Gray said. "Alabama is typically not a 75/25 percent Republican state.

I think a lot of that is driven by the popularity of the Republican Party Primary. Right now, there's not a lot going on with the Democrats."

The News 5/Strategy Poll was conducted by telephone, among registered voters, Monday January 4th. 3,155 people responded. The poll has a margin of error of two-percent.

Alabama's Primary takes place March 1st.

Glad to see Trump & Cruz safely on top...and I’m OVERJOYED to see the duplicitous, deceitful, amnesty-and-open-borders promoting MARCO RUBIO being a single-digit-midget.

I’m sure the Cruz people will be on here shortly telling us he’s surging....

Why isn’t anyone polling likely Dem voters, or independent voters? I imagine Trump would be on top of all of them.

Internal polling must have all the elites running scared. It’s Trump 24/7/365.

"The News 5/Strategy Poll was conducted by telephone"

Add 6 points to that.

Well, just the other day a Freeper got on me for saying Trump was “pushing 40” in many polls, but this article says he is now pushing 50.

I was cautious earlier, but it is likely we are now seeing a very big wave coming.

It's hard to be cautious, which I think I am, when an objective look at the polls is pointing to something huge here...some kind of major shift.

Trump’s rally in Alabama attracted 30,000 Patriots.

No surprise he is up Big Time in Alabama.

However, it is always fun to see and read about it.

Everybody in GA is for Trump. Its like a rock party here. So much for Cruzers who think their goy is taking the SEC. Never gonna happen in a million years.

Personally, Cruz is my pick. But I wouldn’t be unhappy with Trump in the nomination. I certainly am not going to vote for any of the others.

The die hard Cruz folks are nothing if not optimistic. Hopefully he at least takes Iowa or he won’t have any chips in the game at all.

Hell, even Rove pointed out last night that the road for Trump is easy as long as there’s 5 in the race. And I don’t see how we drop to 3 before Super Tuesday.

I agree. Carson won’t get out til after SC at least and neither will Rubio or Yeb. As long as they all stay in Trump rolls across the finish line. Even if it comes down to Trump and Cruz IMO Trump still takes it by a mile.

Yep. By the time it gets down to Trump and Cruz (or Rubio) Trump will be so far ahead it’ll be over anyway.

I gave it 4 hours to see if your brilliant prediction was fulfilled and, so far, nothing.
