Tensions over the treatment of two cattle ranchers in Oregon escalated into an armed standoff over the weekend when members of a rightwing militia occupied a wildlife refuge and threatened a confrontation with federal authorities.
Ammon Bundy, the son of the Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy, who was at the heart of a notorious showdown over cattle grazing rights last year, was among at least a dozen heavily armed men who seized the headquarters of the Malheur wildlife refuge on Saturday afternoon and said they would stay indefinitely.
They occupied the building after an earlier peaceful protest over the treatment of two ranchers, Dwight Hammond and his son Steve, who are facing custodial sentences related to arson charges. Both are due to report to prison on Monday.

That this is like the federal government telling every city and town that they can't remove the snow in the winter, but must let nature take its' course.
For those in warmer areas, that they are told by the federal government that the trash can't be removed, they must let nature take its' course.
No sewers, let it decay in the streets with the garbage, etc.
Idiots with guns doing stupid $&YT like this is like a late Christmas present to the gun grabber and chief.
FWIW, another email from the Bundys:
“Dear Friends,
Today we are marching in Oregon to stand up for the Hammonds, it is bitter cold with plenty of snow on the ground but we will not waiver.
We wish you were here, but if not could we ask a small favor?
Would you please forward this Press Release to your local newspaper and TV outlets?
This is perhaps the simplest thing you can do to help the Hammonds, we must bring attention to them now.
FOR IMMEDIATE PRESS RELEASE:
CLIVEN D. BUNDY

January 1, 2016 - Bunkerville, NV USA
With great concern and love and much consideration from prayer, I come to you Harney County Sheriff of Oregon David M. Ward, rancher Steven Dwight Hammond, and rancher Dwight Lincoln Hammond, Jr.,
I, Cliven D. Bundy, have been involved for several weeks in the background striving to understand and comprehend your dilemmas in Harney County, Oregon. I understand that the grass that was burnt on each side of the fence was grazing rights that had been created through beneficial use, one side of the fence being private property and the other side of the fence being private property rights. The fires that were set were for a good purpose and had good results.
The United States Justice Department has NO jurisdiction or authority within the State of Oregon, County of Harney over this type of ranch management. These lands are not under U.S. treaties or commerce, they are not article 4 territories, and Congress does not have unlimited power. These lands have been admitted into statehood and are part of the great State of Oregon and the citizens of Harney County enjoy the fullness of the protections of the U.S. Constitution. The U.S. Constitution limits United States government.
It is my suggestion, Steven Hammond, that you go and check yourself into Harney County jail asking for protective custody. It is my suggestion, Dwight Hammond, that you go and check yourself into Harney County jail asking for protective custody. It is my suggestion, Harney County Sheriff David Ward, accept these two ranchers into your jail, notify the United States Solicitor in Washington DC that you have these two ranchers in Harney County jail, that they will remain there indefinitely under your protective custody and the protection of We the People of Harney County and We the People of the United States of America.
I suggest an Evidentiary Hearing or a Grand Jury be formed by We the People.
I feel that this action is immediately important, that it should be taken place before 10:00 am Saturday, January 2, 2016. I will hold these suggestions private until that time then I will release this letter to those having state and county jurisdiction and to the media.
Cliven D. Bundy”
Not to mention that some “Naitonal Parks” have attained the world heritage site status if they fall inside the “required” u.n. guidelines. As far as me, the u.n. should have NO say as to anything in the U.S.
The media will be all over this, since this deflects from the Muslim terrorism that is murdering innocents all over the world.
Now they will say - see the White Christian terrorists, see, we are just as bad as Islam.
None of it’s true, but in tv world perception is reality.
Well, at least spam-u-l jackson can be happy about this one since it’s his desire that these things are done by “white” guys.
Perhaps they are, but it's a symptom of a citizenry FED up.
The executive branch is legislating by regulation. NO representation, just mandates. The Federal government overnight could deny you of your property rights, seize your home, freeze your bank accounts...totally bring ruin on you without a single law/policy negotiated constitutionally in congress.
I feel it is their belief that they are standing up to an out of control government. Right or wrong, they appear to be pushing back.
Remember the minuteman project down South on the border? It was George Bush who labeled a bunch of older folks attempting to aid the border patrol by lending extra eyes...vigilantes. It was GB who allowed border patrol agents to languish in jail before commuting their sentence...not pardoning. Waco, Ruby Ridge, Elian Gonzales?
I’m not trying to be tongue in cheek, but the news reports I’ve read from a reporter in the area at the “Oregon Live” website affiliated with the “Portland Oregonian” say the FBI is involved and is in charge of the situation.
Exactly. As another poster has noted, this latest "militia" move is a huge gift to Obama. And if Obama plays it smart (and he will), he won't order the building taken by force.
He'll put just enough pressure on the "militiamen" to keep this thing in the news. Perhaps the Fed's will surround the building at a respectable distance, then Obama will announce that "safety" move at a news conference. Then the Fed's will investigate where the militia's guns came from. Obama will talk about that at a news conference. Etc.
The story I posted from the Portland newspaper website in the last hour describes this situation as an ‘occupation of the refuge’.
Are buildings being occupied? I got the impression they were last night when this first came down.
Lets look for more pictures and info on this to better understand it.
This thing could go two ways and I do not see that it can justify Obama's gun grab because this is exactly why we have the second amendment....for over stepping burdensome government. If this government handles it like either Wacco incident this could backfire for dems hugely. It draws attention to the burdensome regulations and lack of justice given to us by dems that Americans can not fight being dumped on our shoulders by this government.
No, killing a bunch of Americans, that think they are fighting to save their family land from the government or the people that have come in to help has the huge potential of setting something off everywhere else the government is overreaching and being too burdensome to the point of harm.
In the last 7 years Americans have been arming hugely. They are preparing to defend themselves and you have to ask from what do they think they need to defend themselves from. I really do not think this is an America that another Wacco will be accepted against citizens not falling in line with the democrats federal government control.
The United States and the federal government is under the Constitution, not the U.N.
What, exactly, constitutes a time to resist the hostilities of the government's negation of the Constitution????
Waiting and bowing to them has gotten us Ruby Ridge/Waco/Kent State and others. To some, it's never the right time to take a stand - then they bemoan how bad the government is getting...
We need Governors and Sheriffs to put their feet down and say, "Enough!"
Until the People have some legitimate Governors/Sheriffs to follow, we will always be behind the eight ball and be able to be deemed as rebels for trying to point out how oppressive the government is becoming.
Perry made noise about the border in Texas and folded. The new governor says the equivalent of "molon labe" and it will be interesting to see if he sticks by those guns.
Without legitimately elected officials standing up for the 10th Amendment, the people will always be looked upon as the bad guys and equated to terrorists.
Bad move.
Hell, I see their side to some degree and they would not want conservative me to be the fed in charge of clearing up the situation.
Left or right and no matter the issue, one should pick their battles carefully with serious thought to both the eventual resolution and the greater issues and how those issues can be portrayed in the worst possible light.. This ain’t it. At least I don’t think so.
Almost nobody outside of actual ranchers understands or agrees with the concept of ‘grazing rights’ on public land nowadays. The people I know are simply baffled that it was ever a possibility. L losing battle for a lost cause in a way of life from the last century in a country that no longer exists, I’m afraid.
I was going to make a snide comment about the women & children at Waco in my "baby" comment, but decided to leave it simple.
Guck the fovernment.
The taxpeasants got squeezed GOOD for that high-dollar deck...
Aamon Bundy is not the guy to lead the charge into CWll. What he is doing is really stupid and the optics are terrible. Notice the Oath Keepers are nowhere to be found nor any state politicians.
