IMO, it's 'funny' how 'Conservative' those on this board get when it comes to something THEY utilize/champion...right out the F* window. Odd, isn't it?

Over the last two or three years our local city and county governments have been re-striping the local roads to create bicycle paths.

They have covered, painted over, or removed the old white and yellow lane stripes and painted new stripes that narrowed the passenger lanes and made space for a bicycle lane. Some of the highways they reworked are 3 and 4 lanes per side, plus exits, turn lanes, etc.

This area is not big bicycle country - especially on the highways. On most of the roads you will never see a bicycle rider, on some of the others you may see one a day.

In my opinion a person would have to be insane or have a death wish to bicycle on the major multi-lane, high speed, high traffic roads that were re-striped. That is probably why they don't do it.

Imagine the large waste of tax dollars to do this work that, at best, accomodates a few while inconveniencing the many. And how many other municipalities and counties are wating tax dollars doing the same thing?

What the government has actually done is remove millions of dollars worth of roadway from use by the people who paid for it and reserved the space for bicycalists. Many thousands of motorists are now crammed into smaller lanes while they speed by the vacant space reserved for the rare bicyclist.

I’ve stopped walking the Mt. Vernon trail because I got sick and tired of nearly being killed by the Tour de France wannabees. Maybe this will allow pedestrians to use the trail in safety again but I doubt it. Why use the hot lane when you can barrel down on someone and yell an insult at them as you speed by?
