California-based Chevron Corp. (NYSE: CVX), which has a major presence in Houston, joins the growing list of businesses opting out of Texas’ open carry law. The company sent an email to employees on Dec. 31 notifying them that, “based on existing laws and company policy, no firearms (handguns, rifles or shotguns) are permitted inside Chevron office buildings.â€... Texas' open carry law goes into effect Jan. 1. The law allows Texans with a concealed handgun license to openly carry a gun in a belt or shoulder holster. Several grocery stores, Houston's Galleria mall, San Antonio-based Whataburger and Austin-based Torchy's Tacos are just a few of the businesses that have confirmed they will opt out of the law.

And surprisingly many pro-gun folks seek to divide gun owners with the open/constitutional carry vs. concealed only drivel.
Not a sound path to venture in the name of liberty. Plays directly into the hands of the anti-gun crowd.

Nope, or in any business that generates more than 51% of their revenue by sale of alcohol.
But the good news? You can carry in the banks.
Carry concealed, what they don’t know wont hurt them and the gun is there if you need it.
It maintains your element of surprise.
As I understand the law, the email is meaningless.
Actual signs have to be posted at all entrances.
Not for employees. You have to do what your boss tells you to do, no signs required.

Can they actually opt out of the law? Can anyone just opt out of any law they don’t agree with? I don’t get it.
Alcohol is insufficient reason to ban guns. 51% of sales have to come from alcohol to make that claim.
And they must post a 51% sign or the Texas penal code banning open carry and/or concealed carry (2 different codes) at the entrance.
If they can deny your 2nd amendment right, they can deny your first amendment right.

It is under duress to do “what your boss tells you”.
Political re-education (compliance training with online tests) are common at jobs and have been for 20 years (pushing the homosexual agenda and the green memes) but it should be unconstitutional to require an employee to parrot such political points as conditions of employment.
The merchants at the Galleria such as Tiffany’s, Prada, Neiman Marcus, and Abercrombie & Fitch, will lose tons of business and will have to move to other locations in Houston.
As for Whataburger and HEB, both Texas institutions and I really don’t see how they will survive by denying service to Open Carry Texans. They will go out of business too.

Some folks just can’t get it. Think of France declaring herself a gun free zone so that Germany could march right in and take over, aka surrender. Do these people think surrendering to killers will stop the killers?
Will these companies be installing metal detectors at the front door? Afterall, that’s the only way to be sure no guns enter the building...
