Yesterday, U.S. Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) released a new ad that lacks any spoken narration, but highlights court victories he had as a private attorney and as Solicitor General of Texas. The ad that will air statewide in Iowa through January 3rd highlights Cruz's victories defending the Mojave Memorial Cross, the Texas Capitol Ten Commandments monument, the Second Amendment, and the words "under God" in the Pledge of Allegiance.

You can watch the :30 second ad entitled “Victories” below:

Victories (Video)

Cruz who has been trying to coalesce support from Iowa’s evangelicals has made religious liberty a campaign focus that included holding a rally in Des Moines back in August that featured several Americans like Dick and Betty Odgaard, who had to fight a discrimination charge because they refused to accommodate a same-sex wedding ceremony because of their religious convictions. He has also held a similar religious liberty rally in South Carolina in November.

He recently discussed those rallies with Princeton Law Professor and founder of American Principles Project Robert George during an interview earlier this month on EWTN. He also said that he believes 2016 will be a “religious liberty election.”

"Given the seriousness of these religious liberty threats, what would you do, as President of the United States, to protect the rights of...people of all faiths who believe in marriage as a union of a man and a woman? And specifically would you, in your first 100 days, push for the passage of the First Amendment Defense Act (FADA) that would protect people's rights against any possible discrimination or persecution from the federal government - people's rights to believe and act on their belief that marriage is the union of husband and wife?" George asked Cruz.

Cruz responded, "Absolutely, yes. As you know, I'm an original sponsor of that legislation. And when it comes to religious liberty, religious liberty has been a passion for me for decades, and it has been something that I have been fighting to defend for many, many years. When I was the Solicitor General of Texas, we defended the Ten Commandments monument that stands on the State Capitol grounds. We went to the U.S. Supreme Court and we won 5-4, upholding the public display of the 10 commandments and changed the judicial interpretation all across the country. We defended the Pledge of Allegiance - you'll remember when an atheist sued seeking to strike down the pledge - and we defended those words, "one nation under God," we went to the Supreme Court and we won unanimously."

Cruz continued, "And then likewise, when I was in private practice, I represented over 3 million veterans pro bono - for free - defending the Mojave Desert Memorial, which is a lone white Latin cross, which was erected over 70 years ago to honor the men and women that gave their lives in World War I. And the ACLU sued seeking to get that veterans memorial torn down. They won in the District Court, they won in the Court of Appeals - the court ordered that veterans memorial to be covered with a giant sack with a chain and a padlock at the bottom because they said you cannot gaze at the image of a cross on public lands. And we went to the Supreme Court on behalf of 3 million veterans defending that veterans memorial, and we won 5-4."

Cruz explained, "This has been a life's passion fighting for it, and I'm convinced 2016 is going to be a religious liberty election. I've hosted now two religious liberty rallies, one in Iowa, one in South Carolina, they both had 2,000-3,000 people come out. And what we did - the media tries so hard to belittle these threats, they say they're not real and they don't exist - typically at a political event, the candidate is front and center. I very much wanted me to receive - I sat in the office and listened and we featured heroes - Kelvin Cochran spoke at our Iowa religious liberty rally - we had nine heroes come to Iowa and just tell their stories and it was ordinary people, a baker, a florist, a fireman, a soldier - every one of whom stood for their faith and every one of whom was persecuted, and we did another one in South Carolina, and it was uplifting, it was powerful. I would encourage viewers - we've got both religious liberty rallies on our website, I would encourage folks to go to tedcruz.org and watch it."

And this gives him how many new votes? I no longer support Cruz but look at this as preaching to the choir and not expanding his base. This is why he is and will lose.

WHY I HAVE AN ILLUMINATED CROSS AS A PROTEST

When are those so called democrats who are really “democratic” in name only and belong to a political party which espouses one perfect world socialist state ever going to be called out on their core beliefs ?

Democrat core beliefs showed up with booing the mention of God in 2012 at their national convention which made it official.

They’ve declared a war on religion because it opposes their agenda. Particularly Christianity.Which I for one now have an illumiuated crucifix at night in my front yard facing the street (Highway) as a statement. And encourage others do as well

A DEMOCRAT apparently doesn’t believe there’s such a thing as the Ten Commandments, or sin, because everything that leaves their mouths is a lie. Democrat lying is part of their core belief . Never mind the abuse of their positions promoting crony capitalism campaign contributers who took our money to finance alternate energy plans spending billions that went belly up at our expense while leaving our infastructure to fall apart......

And lets not forget the other trap being politically correct.. Which is nothing more than a perverted effort to silence opposition to a socialist agenda.

Because Cruz should pander to other people to expand his base?

I guess I get how this perhaps turns some off. But I am also relatively sure that a guy probably smarter than the both of us, definitely smarter I am guessing when it comes to campaigning, and who has always wanted to build a coalition of numerous and varying stripes will do just that, or at least attempt to.

Cruz should not be faulted for emphasizing something he feels is one of the biggest problems in the country. Just as Trump, whom I don’t trust, still should not be criticized for emphasizing immigration in his campaign over and over.

It is not pandering to address the issues of the day, even if the candidate's view is different. Honesty and transparency over pandering of lies, which Cruz has been accused of recently.

My point is that Cruz speaks to a base that he has or is sharing with Huckabee, Rubio, etc. What is he doing to build a base of support beyond that narrow niche of Republican voters? Nothing.

And your proof of this is ...?

Don’t be bashful, cough up your sources.

So I guess you now live in every conservative leaning home and know every voter personally, BECAUSE I don’t know how you have so much foreknowledge to know how this race will shake out-or even what this ad will or will not do!?

And, of course, you are a master or primary/caucus politics ... or a know-nothing who demands to be heard ... or a troll.

Which is it?

Well then we disagree when you say, “even if the candidate’s view is different”, than unless I’m not getting what you’re trying to say right, that IS pandering, and perhaps even worse, LYING.

What issues of the day is Cruz failing to discuss?

Immigration? He talks about it.

Iran? He talks about it.

ISIS and terrorism and radical jihadists? He talks about them.

2nd Amendment rights? He talks about them.

The economy? He talks about it.

Obamacare? He talks about it.

If you really want to nitpick every single campaign ad a candidate puts out, or point to a particular one and say, “Why did he do that?”, well feel free I guess. Seems to me like you just decided to zero in on the one thing you felt comfortable and safe in criticizing him about though.

Good to see Cruz countering Huckster and Santorum with results not just words.

Cruz is the only top polling candidate courting Christians. Trump isn’t and rubio isn’t.

Has Trum said how he would protect Christians from the heavy hand of govt??

Let me help you out here. As a healthcare provider with social/professional contacts that number into the thousands who also happens to be Hispanic, I know of NO non-Republican Hispanics who support or will vote for Cruz. I have not encountered any Dims that support or will vote for Cruz. Ditto for self-identified Independents, of whom virtually none has given any indication of support for Cruz. On the flip side many of the members of the above mentioned groups have expressed interest, dare I say ‘excitement’, for Trump. The most common sentiment I hear is that folks have virtually NO TRUST for anything/anyone that reeks of Washington DC.

The conversation between Ted Cruz and Robert George, Ted's former law professor at Princeton, mentioned in this article has several sections that are fascinating for anyone interested in the views of an intelligent, genuine conservative running for president. I especially recommend the section that explores the topic of misapplication of judicial power in the gay marriage ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court. Statements following the ruling by Justice Kennedy that Ted describes are very chilling.

I laugh at the recent statements of Santorum and Huckabee desperately attempting to drive a wedge between social conservatives and Ted Cruz on this issue. Watch the segment using the link below cued up to the time when gay marriage is discussed. Cruz's firm resolve is made very clear to side with state and local authorities that choose to defy the ruling if necessary and to overturn this illegitimate and unlawful ruling and return the issue to voters in each state where it properly belongs.

Don't support Cruz, don't seem to support FR ..... Just what do you support?

Now for a short public service announcement to all on FR:
We need to ensure we don't get another Obama-like America Hater as the next President.
The best way to ensure that is to actively support a candidate as the next President.
I prefer Cruz and my money goes to his campaign, hence the Cruz link. If you like someone else, donate to him/her (find your own link to do it) and if you use FR and don't donate, then please don't complain about the welfare leeches or those who have Obama Phones because, functionally, you are no different than any other who enjoys the fruits of others' work for your own benefit.

PS - If you are one of those who cannot afford even a small donation to FR or a candidate, God Bless and happy FReeping!.....

GO CRUZ!! Keep it up Trump!!

Donate to FR

Donate to Cruz

I don't blame Cruz for soft-peddling this issue. He needs to get elected, whatever it takes. Then, JUST LIKE OBAMA, he can "evolve" and change his mind to make marriage restoration his top priority.

LOL! And Trump’s absolutely laughable, pathetic attempt to claim Christianity with his childhood Bible, which he claimed is “his favorite book,” is going to earn HIM any points?

It made him look like an idiot.
